The old Alternator on my 94 GQ Patrol TD42 had what looked to be a earth connection on it with some sort of supressor connected to it and a quite thick black cable (See attachment). The new Alternator I got off flea bay has no where to attach these. So, can I bin the supressor and is the black cable just an earth and so can I just attach to the body somewhere?
Thx

That earth cable doesn't look genuine.....possible the earth for a second battery??. Yes it can be connected to a clean surface on the engine.
The suppressor/condensor is to help prevent noise through your radio. Yes you can bin it or you can extend the wire and mount it somewhere else.

x2 with Yendor regarding suppressor.
CONFIRM that black cable isn't a B+ cable before you go playing around.
I have come across looms with black wires running positive. Nor very helpful. Check it.

I don't think it can be B+ as it was connected to the alternator body (see pic)......
Since I fitted new alternator, belts, fan etc there is a very slight whistle from the engine bay when accelerating..... sounds like the turbo I want to get....
