looking for opinions on if this is worth it.

I have found myself in the position, where i can purchase a 89 lwb gq for $2000.
It has a fresh reco 4.2d, non turbo silvertop donk under the bonnet. Mechanically seems the goods.
Also, it has a long range tank in it. The body is ordinary at best and is unregistered.

My tb42e, 270k on the clock is in pretty good nick in my opinion.

A. would you do the transplant, if in the same position?
B. Is there a whole lot involved, if i have the donar car sitting beside my gq?

cheers

Just helped my mate do the same conversion.

well worth it for bush driving.
We added a snail to its side as well so that made it alot nicer.

Ended up using the cars wireing harness and adapting it to suit it diesel, Not an easy job but can be done.

Theres no way id flick a good running TB42E for a TD42 ,just wouldnt even consider it
The diesels are good , no doubt but IF the car is 2 grand ,it makes you wonder how much of a fully reco it had ???
Youve got the donor car so that helps, but why consider the swap ???
Economy would be the only reason, the TB has more power
Buy the cheaper 2 K special ,use it for weekend work,or sell it make some money
