Howdy
not sure how this will go and might already be one on here, but figured seeing as we just shared some band info on the General Banter thread which Doggy found of use, I thought maybe we should have a general thread for people to list their preferred music styles/likes etc and if everyone gets into it, you never know, you might find a few bands in the vein you like that you have never heard of before.
As an example, if you are into mainstream rock (most triple m stations style etc) then someone like Our Lady Peace (songs Starseed; Supermans Dead; etc) or Eve6 (songs Inside Out; Tongue Tied; etc) might be your cup of tea!! Have a listen to them - you never know.
Over to you ... I like a huge variety of music, but being I play the drums I lean towards hard rock.

Check out a few of the bands on the General Banter thread that I just threw Doggy's way also (mosty hard rock) ... as said, you may already know them, but worth a listen ... Chevelle (Letter From a Thief) and Stone Sour (Say You'll Haunt Me) are good ones also ...

Great idea, unfortunately we often never hear great music unless it falls into our lap, particularly European bands that never get airplay here in Aus. A couple of prime examples are Within Temptation (try if you like Killing Heidi or Evenescence) and Tobias Sammet's Avantasia - a Hard Rock/Metal Opera with appearances from worldwide acts such as Alice Cooper (try if you like Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath or Metal Church)

i'm open to all music but just got back from my brothers house who hosted a smoked rib bbq which turned out horrible as he put too much salt on and it was like eating a horse salt lick but back to the story...Someone played bluegrass non stop for 3 hours and I was completely over it. I love bluegrass but after 3 hours of non stop twanging the bango and no lyrics i started to loose the plot!

Good stuff mate - try Chevelle, some of Shinedown's other stuff (not that Second Chance rubbish ... Devour or The Crow and The Butterfly, or What A Shame etc), and Stone Sour (as above).

And as per other post - Flyleaf is becoming a bit of a favourite at the moment (Fully Alive, Beautiful Bride, Cassie, Again, etc), Seether has been one of my favourites for yonks (Fine Again, World Falls Away, Rise Above This, Breakdown) and a couple from leftfield, Revis (Seven, Caught in the Rain), and Lacuna Coil (Half Life, Swamped - most of their other stuff is probably not my style, but these are pretty good individual songs).
See what you think of these ones Doggy!!!!

A lot of New Zealand artist need to come to Australia to enable them to reach out to the rest of the world. Many artist thought to be Aussie are actually Kiwis making it big from Oz. Ross have you heard of Patsy Rigger? I prefer the true country and western style not The New Pop Country, that is the new trend started in USA. Can't stand how they dress a would be pop singer in "country" style clothes, and release them as a new country and western singer. The looks don't make it the style of music does.

You're right mate - amazing (across heaps of different styles) how much decent music comes out of NZ - as you say, we end up taking 'ownership' if they are any good (who knows where NZ is anyway?? lolol) as they use our industry as a stepping stone. Can't say I'm a big fan of country OR western (lol) but the old boy is and hence I probably know half the singers/bands and most of the words (to songs I wish I could forget!!! lolol) - one thing I do know though, country is about the easiest to play along to .. any instrument, doesn't mattter - 3 chords on the guitar; bass, hats, snare and maybe a little splash on the drums; and a two string bass - in that, you have the ability to play most country and western tunes. Have to say though, I do have a little Garth Brooks, Mickey Gilley, and Steve Earl in the collection (The Thunder Rolls by Garth is good when it's cranked up).
I've also got a bit of a hard rock band who sort of, kind of does a dabble in country as well - Brand New Sin - love their song Wyoming (not country) ... but some other gear has a definite country twang to it .... Missin You and Running Alone.

Biggy you are a legend, i mean a thread about music/bands/styles yee haa, where do i start?
Well as you already know i LOVE Korn & Disturbed. Also high on list are Mudvayne, Slipknot, Rage against machine & Acca Dacca.
You also can't go past good aussie rock like midnight oil, silverchair, radiators, living end & cold chisel.
I too like a variety of music including Black eye Peas, david guetta, bloody beetroots & steve aoki.
If you like country rock try out a melbourne band called Vascoe Era.
Must say though love metal/hard rock, thanks Biggy for this thread.

That would be Dirtbox no doubt - everyone knows them!!! lmfao ... you're not old mate, I just love music and basically have something or other playing 24x7 so I hunt around a fair bit for some more obscure and lesser known gear - that said, some of those bands are HUGE (and I mean massive!!) overseas ...

Yeah mate, as said, I hunt down some fairly obscure stuff, but I can imagine rock/alternative music is no different to country, dance, hip hop, etc, etc - if that's what you're into, then sure as there is sh!t in a cat, we won't be getting a tenth of what comes to market from overseas, and that means we never get to hear anything other than what music stations jam down the airwaves - repetitive and generally boring when it comes to a lot of new songs, so I tune into European and American online radio stations under the genre that I like, and hey presto!!! New songs/bands I've never heard of that are playing good music ... all that said, there are a truckload of good aussie bands who don't get the airplay they deserve either (there's a few in that list) ... everyone loves Powderfinger right? Ever heard of their first album called Parables for Wooden Ears?? It was awesome, but very dark and not radio friendly for the time. Love the band LIVE?? Their first album (which is an absolute cracker and probably their best IMHO) called Mental Jewellery never even got released in Australia until they had their first hit off their next album Throwing Copper (song released was The Dam at Otter Creek as I recall) ... anyway ... rambling now ... told you I love music!!! Always good to hunt around in the genre you like - you'll be surprised what you are missing out on ..

Good stuff - you certainly picked a good brand ... Pearl is top notch through the entire range. How far along are you? (Are you one of those people who say "I'm just OK" and then proceed to make Dave Weckyl look ordinary??).
My setup is the Snare (steel as I play mostly power shots/rock), Bass (double kick pedals), 3 Toms (a+b and floor), hi-hats, 18" Heavy Crash, 18" Dark Crash, 16" Custom Crash, 14" Dark Thin Crash, and 20" Ride Cymbal ... hi-hats are paiste, ride is Sabian, and all the crashes are Zildjian - toms and bass are all maple (nice sound) ... expensive hobby and certainly not one that has paid it's own way !! lolol ...
Not sure if you are into drummers in general as a music scene, but Dave Weckyl is definitely worth a listen (rated number 4 in the 'Drummer of the Millenium' awards as voted by peers - the top 3 were all honoured posthumously - i.e. he was the only living member of the top 4), and Grant Collins is pretty good too - he changes his style album to album to keep pushing his own limits, but the music is generally good. There is a song by (wait for it) ... Yanni .... simply entitled Drum Solo and it is a cracker (on YouTube).

yep sounds great; requires occassional repair/adjustment. teaching myself as much as possible about solid state electronics.
the value of experiencing superior HiFi sound has been worth the effort required to acquire, operate and maintain.
The last 1959 Les Paul Standard CSB i saw on ebay sold for $325,000. Thankfully japanese replicas are available.
current 1960 les paul standard is available at the same price.
