This is just a question at the moment,
Would this intercooler and associated piping work on my 04 GU'
Thinking as my 4x4 is NADDED and run manual boost control why cant
I chuck the old IC and fit this set up, Plus is my boost sensor doing anything now
I'm NADDED, I could front mount or top mount. this is not an expensive exercise
less than half the cost of a change over intercooler

Thats great this combo is only costs $250, would get some tabs welded on to top mount.
Thanks heaps DAZ , may just do this, stuff paying $650 change over for an OE IC

Anything will work mate just have to decide where you want to stick it (front or top) the only problem i see is what material is the piping made from coz it'll need some olives welded on when you cut it to size so it doesn't pop off under boost !!

And there is tabs already welded to the top and bottom from memory they take a M8x1.25 bolt, standard for all aftermarket jobs!

threedogs.
A few things to consider off the top if my head.
Firstly, what's the chance of sending me a PM on where you got this kit from.. Please
Is the intercooler rated / pressure tested and suitable for your set-up. If so, bargain.
Are the sizes of the openings at each end similar to the OEM ones? If so, good.
Placing this intercooler in front of your radiator restricts the air flow to the radiator, although you may have already thought of it.
Putting the intercooler in front of the radiator will potentially increase the engine temp. Ensure your cooling system is good.

This mob sell a myriad of inlet/ outlet sizes as well as "universal" IC ones same goes for all the hosing and piping I'd be using constant pressure
hose clamps but no biggy to get machine and run a groove around them. If its already fully welded and tested to 50 psi I cant see an issue.
But then again I'm a motor bike guy not turbo diesel

Bumped these IC s are tested to 80 psi and good for 1000hp
go the three ltr, you good thing

All Ics fully welded and tested like I said to 80 psi
The one I want is 400 x300x76 can get 100mm high
need to try as would be removing engine cover and fitting rubber "wings" to direct air over large area
new to this IC caper but from what I gather just a cold air intake under pressure, that sound right.
Not paying $650 plus for an OE IC end of story thats robbery
Who ever decided on those prices is a theif, let alone those $1300 jobs what a joke.
If this works on mine i'll do all others at cost plus in kits

So where are these ic's from mate as I'm wanting to upgrade myself and for that coin it would be sooner rather than later

Be interesting to see what you'll do with the pipework seeing as the OE one as in and out on same side and this one is opposite. Remember you want it to flow still.

Would be more suited to crd, with inlet outlet on opposing sides, looks good though

I'll see if they do mix n match tanks for the price cant see it going up much

Update have emailed them regarding custom jobs, flissing down with rain ATM
will see what size is ok if I gain 50% in area size for that price beats most.
Does anyony know how much bigger the CC IC is percentage wise if poss.

Be careful with cheap coolers. The benefit doesn't just lie in the size o the cooler but the way the core is designed. If you looked into the cooler see how many fins are on the inside cores, the more the better as you have more surface area for the heat to dissipate into then cooled by the air to air. Also a good quality intercooler will generally see a slight pressure drop, this isn't because of flow but by cooling the air the pressure will drop but be more dense. If you heat air up pressure increases, if you cool it down the pressure decreases.

Being " cheap Chinese" I wonder what the quality is like ... Are they made in the same factory as tigers 11 gear and are just a " cheap copy" lmao
Buy one and let us know how it is that's the only way to find out.

Might see if I can get a proper core and fab some tanks, sounds easier.

@ Newby where can I by a IC core from thats not an arm and a leg

Not all cheap coolers are crap, i have a autotechnica cooler on my rx7 and its brilliant and i had one on my vl turbo aswell.

I can get them at a good rate but they only come in 600x300x76mm and 450x300x76mm and they xr6 turbo upgrade styles.

That particular IC I personally wouldn't use. Only because the port orientation is too different to the OEM unit. Use too long piping and you will lose the cool air you have just cooled through your new bigger IC from ambient engine temps. The shorter the pipes the better.

Nah that was just eg trying to see if he can change to my drawing similar to OE
Failing that I'll get a core {good one} and build my own tanks and outlets

This is the sorta stuff I get to play with. You should see the intercoolers for these. 86L of pure torque 2600kw at 1800rpm.
