Wiring through windscreen vents

G'Day, fitting gauge pod on top of dash, looking to run wiring up and out through the windscreen vents, have removed glovebox, does any one have experience with this, looking at moment to drill into vent pipe and fit 1/2 inch plastic pipe for wiring to pass through, and seal entry point. Vehicle is GU with passenger air bag so working room is limited.
Looks like a good job for today as the rain and wind are picking up here on the Mid north Coast
Using trailer 7 core cale to keep all neat.

Mate i wouldn't touch the windscreen seal if don't want any leaks. Just run your wires through the firewall using the exsisting rubber grommets but make sure you use a bit of silicon on the grommet because they tend to leak when running heaps of wires through them.

No i think he means the Heater vents to the Windscreen? assuming that he is Dash mounting the gauges and needs to get the cables to the gauges then down through the vent will be the neatest mate. Cant really see a problem with what you have proposed to be honest.

But Please! Take a heap of pics while you r doing it and post a DIY thread on the forum, i'd love to see how it all comes together and interested in how the gauges look.

I have a Pillar Pod and Rate it highly in the GUIV..

What gauges are you going to be running? how many? what series GU?

May need to run the wires or cabling in some split tubing, AS MR says heaps of pics
A neat on dash pod velcroed and colour coded would look great. could put one on side of centre console
near your left knee

i have a centre dash pod and ran wires between windscreen and dash then behind glove box then down to passenger carpet and out through a grommet. you can see grommet from engine bay. this may not be your preferred way of running wires. it suited me because i was running air lines to shock absorbers so the grommet down low was ideal. hope this helps.

Thanks to all for your responses, fitting 5 gauges in gauge pod on top of dash, EGT, Boost, Oil Pressure, Water Temp and Voltmeter, (reads both batteries via 2 pole rocker switch). It is a GU III, 2002 with the 3.0 engine, have cleaned MAF sensor with carby/throttle cleaner (had some) and fited the provent. Yep should take some pics, have fitted Tigerz11 bar and 12000lb winch, projecta dual battery control, fused positive battery terminals, rear drawers, maybe this weekend and then post.

TIP.
When running lines through any panel.
always put a downwards loop in it before it enters the panel.
this way any water that touches will run down the line and drip off.
If ya run a line form an elevated position without a loop any water will simply follow the lines path inside the car.
