Rain. What Rain. The last rain we got was melb cup day 13mm. Tanks nearly empty.

Cuppa
21st February 2013, 06:33 PM
Had 12mm since 20th December. Total for January was 2mm. A normal year for that period is between 80 & 100mm.

But had 13mm overnight last night, need a lot more to put water back into our dried out dams though. Still got half a tank for the house but stock water is getting to a critical stage. Didn't help when I left a tap on a few months ago & drained a full 30,000 gallon tank before I realised. Flash flooding forecast for some areas tonight. Keeping my fingers crossed that we get it!

Winnie

Wouldn't it be good if there was 1 long big ass pipe from north to south on this lovely eastern seaboard, I mean we could just open the tap and it would run right down right? Gravity and all, Wouldn't need any pumps :D

Geez Cuppa, I'm half an hour down the road and we hardly got a drop overnight!

Not unusual, up here at 600m we often get different weather to down in the valley. Usually we are much wetter, but this year it's different. I've heard many times over the years that our locality has it's own weather patterns. I keep looking at the radar, & that rain looks tantalisingly close, but we haven't had any of it yet tonight, just fog.

X 2 with the Tallarook comment reckon the big hill down to the reservoir would have looked like
a waterfall. Then again it hasn't rained for so long it might need more rain than that to make mud.

Just drizzle. :( It's got a bit harder a couple of times, looks promising & then just stops after a minute or two. Even if this were to keep up all night I'd be surprised if we got more than 5 to 10mm at most. 50 to 100mm might start to be useful.

EDIT: Spoke to soon. It's completely stopped & the sun is shining again,

I put my hazard lights on in fog coz amber/yellow/orange light travels thru fog unlike "white" light thats why the street lights in areas that a prone to fog and due are orange.

But i used to go for midnight runs up and down the freeway in fog with just my fog lights when i was trying to self tune my microtec when i was 19 lol

Sigh. Didn't get any more wet stuff overnight. A total of just 7.8mm from yesterday. Despite the weather forecast saying a 100% probability of 10 to 15mm today, rain across mid Victoria to east Gippsland this morning has just missed us again. Things are getting a bit desperate. It is ridiculous. Most folk on town water take it for granted & have no idea of it's value. It's not until you look like not having enough that it suddenly becomes valuable. To get water delivered here, just 25kms from town, by tanker is $350 for 5000 litres, a bit different to your 0.65cents for the same amount. Cattle drink 50 to 60 litres per day in hot weather. Doesn't take long to be going backwards, even harder if you have to buy in feed as well. Get dancing mate, & anyone else who wants to do a little jig, feel free!
