Everyone
Crap, so restrictive
No
Don't bother.
No worries...
Lol. First up, what phone do you have.
I have an android based phone and my wife has a crapple I flop 5.
She wanted a pad but I wasn't going to fork out $500 on a pad which has such high running costs via apps and music..
I bought a 7" android tablet for her Christmas pressy..
She loves it. It took a little to get use to, but I see it like a computer, a main screen for your most used apps then a start up menu for the rest, were apple has everything on the desk top.
And price... I got the 7" screen, 8g internal and 32g removable memory, with WiFi for $110 delivered.
Last I checked you can get a 7" the WiFi, 3g (use data via phone network) and gps for the $300 mark.. still cheaper than crapple and a ton more features...

Nexus 7 is the next best thing to ifraud and half the price. In a recent What Hi-Fi test it only lost out the iplopon the display? Which is odd as it has the same screen resolution.
Samsung is good but too expensive, you might as well get iplop if you're spending that much dollar.

Ok, first off, iPad/iPhone/iAnything are designed for a specific audience, and genarally speaking that audience wouldnt usually be on forums/anything technical.
I know it might seem like nothing for alotta people on here to just jump onto tappa/web browser, load up the forum and a few of you other favourite tabs and surf away, but truth be told we're probably in the minority of the population. for alot of people out there getting to their emails easily on a daily basis is a challenge.
so apple is:
Crap, so restrictive
sure your right westy, but the apple brand is designed for mainly beginners. its like training wheels on a bike. you cant lean you cant go as fast, but the basic principle of riding the bike is there. sure that analogy has lots of holes in it, like people usually go onto a bigger better bike, wheras apple dont want that. so yes they keep you in the dark, make most of their operating principles completely different to other O/S's
so getting to it now:
apple are good, the mini is not a bad product, and under most circumstances you will find it basically does what you need.
there are plenty of other alternatives out there, i have bought a few just to play, my tablet is a 9.7" screen, similar in size and shape to the ipad 1 was about $140, i can get most of the apps of the google play store, but some of them are not available to this device as its a dodgy non-branded product. there are work arounds but i wouldnt recommend anyone with a good clue about computers/technology get one as you will be pulling you hair out in frustration.
if you want android, go for the asus transformer prime, of the samsung galaxy tab as someone else mentioned on here before.
i hope this was more help than confusing.
cheers

The apple debate is as bad as religious debates! People seem to be fanatical and so fired up, I've got iPhones and iPad and am very happy. Sure they are more controlled than my PC etc but I can handle that. I use Mud Maps on the iPad and iPhone, I reckon an iPad mini would be ideal for that purpose.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry, I tried finding the ones I bought, but its gone from my app eBay list.
Plenty of options for sub $400 with GPS, WiFi etc. I wouldn't go an iPad, but it depends on your needs.

I use the ipad mini, Ruth uses the " new ipad " we both have iPhone 5... I have mud maps on the ipad mini which I am very happy with and since I have it on my ipad it automatically downloaded to my phone....always useful when sitting around bored I can view new tracks. I can send and receive text messages through my ipad to other apple products as well as using face time (Skype) all for free... Ruth has the connection to plug a USB port in here ipad( mine has a different plug as does the iphones( lightning plugs) a bit of a downfall if you ask me. We have the apps so we can print wirelessly from our apple products ( which was free) so printing is no problem and there are heaps of word processors available for letter writing as well as mouses(not sure if it is mice or mouses as plural when it comes to computers) and keyboards available if you prefer them..
Over all they are great products in my opinion and well worth the cost and has so many uses!!!
