Hey, Recently bought my patrol, GQ EFI and only runs on gas, pulled the tank out and discovered it had stale fuel and the pump was no good as well as the wires ripped out of the Sender. I've replaced the pump etc with new wires and got rid of the terminal contraption it had at the top.
To cut a long story short the previous owner has done a dodgy and cut the original plug off and has attached trailer wire to it to get to the fuel tank (Dual Fuel).

Does anyone know what wires go where? i'm going to run new wires but so far i'm having trouble ascertaining which wire does what.
From what i've found i have:

Switched +ve 12v
Switched +ve 7v
Earth

I think there's 2 more, i can only assume one is the low fuel warning and the other the gauge sender.

Should i have 12v and 7v down there?

Sorry for the novel!

Hi Corey,

Can you still see the original wire colours?

Fuel pump positive should be Green with a Red trace wire
Fuel gauge should be Yellow with a Black trace wire
Low fuel light should be Yellow with a Blue trace wire.
Earth - black wire/s

Was the 7 volt reading taken with the harness plugged into the fuel sender? if so, more then likely this is the fuel gauge wire.

Cheers Rodney

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately at the moment i can't see the original wire colours, i have to remove the gas tank or at least lower it to get to the original wiring, i will run a new loom so i will make sure i refer to your post when i do.
The reading was taken just with a multimeter with nothing connected, the tank isn't in at the moment, i was trying to work out what everything does first.

You saved me many a hour tracing things back, thanks!

There is an inspection cover in the floor in the rear of the vehicle.

This inspection cover allowed access to the fuel sender unit for the original fuel tank.

Remove this cover and you might be able to see the connections where they extended the harness when the LPG tank was installed.

I removed that yesterday and was having a look, I can see the wires but can't get my hand in there until I lower the tank and can't see any colours due to electrical tape everywhere. Hopefully I don't have to remove the tank completely, though I do need to replace the breather hoses for the fuel tank so may have to come out anyway.

Thanks again

The easiest way to test the fuel gauge and low fuel light circuit is to turn the ignition on (engine not running)

If you touch the wire for the fuel gauge onto earth the fuel gauge should read full. Same with the low fuel light wire, if you touch this onto earth the light should come on.

Excellent, I'll give that a shot

Thanks!
