Ships have slow turn turn diesel engines eg 3rpm and are a bit bigger. At trade school in the engines room they had a steam engine piston with con rod from a v line train, it stood at 1.2m from the bearing to top of piston and across the top of the piston it was roughly 35cm diameter but that only had 2 rings. The only thing thats making me un sure is the fact that it has a rather thick compression ring and 3 oil rings thats reminds me of a big v8 supercharged, twin turbo diesel engine they also had on display at trade school out of a mining truck, that stood at 2.5 m tall and 1.5 - 2m wide

Could definately be from a Diesel Loco motor, Locomotive diesel engines are actually classified as a small marine diesel. Maximum revolutions are governed at 1050RPM and come in Naturally aspirated, Turbo Charged and Turbo-Supercharged combinations.

Two Stroke GM engines in loco's range from 567 Cubic Inches per cylinder to 710 Cubic inches per cylinder. They come in V combinations ranging from V6 through to V20.

Then you also have ALCO(American Locomotive Company)motors which are 4 stroke and come in straight 6 and V12, V16 and V18 combinations, cant remember the cubic inch capacity for these.

Then there are GM and GE four stroke V16 Engines, but that piston looks way too old to be from them.

Anyway, I just thought you might find it of interest.

Piston is 250mm acorss and 280mm high , did not bother to measure distance from pin to top and blah blah!!

Always welcome but tonight is swimming lessons and then off to Toorak to do the bloody bins as I am stuck with no bloody car at the moment..

A number of valves need adjusting as they were not closing so should be ready by 3pm... cuts it close to pick up Erica!!!

Cheers for that, you would have been better of doing the tappets after toorak so the motor is nice and hot!

Not as easy as that as I have to fit work done to the car in between my business and kids... Frigging juggling act sometimes.

Sitting at mechanics waiting and worrying as Erica finishes in 25min and car is not ready???
