Morning all
Want to change the radiator coolant and wonder how it's done. In the old days you pulled the bottom hose, waited, replaced and refilled. That was on the FJ and FC Holden etc.. when motor cars were as simple as me.

The manual says pull the radiator drain plug and a plug each on the block and the water inlet. Using mirrors and lights and with the neck of a 3ft. snake you can almost see the last two plugs, well one anyway.
Access with any tool I've got and I'm reasonably well set up, is nil.
Thanks Mr. Nissan.

What's the go??? Pull the bottom hose and bugger the rest or to save the engine do I need to spend two months dismantling the lot to get access??
Thanks all

On right track with bottom hose, but check when refilling that you don't get an air lock in the head or thermo housing,
if there is a small hose coming of top of engine, remove it to allow any air out, could save head.

X 2 then remove thermostat and further flush with water to get most out.
DON'T MIX COOLANTS
this will result in coolant turning to Gel, leading to overheating issues'
Use OE thermostat and NISSAN Coolant IMO

Also make sure your heater hot / cold setting is on hot so the coolant in your heater core is flushed also .

isnt it a pain in the ass to get to the thermostat as it is at the side of the motor towards the bottom and comes off the bottom hose

Don't touch those plugs on the block and inlet, chances are that if you force them, it will go "pear shaped".........Just undo the plug on the bottom radiator its only plastic with "O" on it and its Philips no 3 (from memory I think) screwdriver, not very tight and much easier than hose for sure.
I'd also undo heater hose/s on top of the engine (near the turbo) piping its the highest point when filling the system back up otherwise you gonna get an airlock in the heater core.

Ensure there isn't airlock and be prepared for it but thanks to the slow reading gauge you'll have hard time to catch it on time. So if you have Scangauge use it to monitor engine temps from the engine ECU cause as soon as you start driving the temps will raise really quickly if there is an airlock. If thats the case pull over wait a minute release the cap slowly (header tank) let the air out and top up as required.
Cheers

I was watching wheeler dealers on fox the other day and he put a new type of coolant in a triumph stag that didnt need or contain any water so no build up of preasure. Got the car up to temp then took the cap off. Is it available in Aus and if so would that help the old zd30s?
