Hi all,

We are traveling across Australia in our GU Patrol. Appear to have a partial fuel blockage, but don't have the necessary tools to check it out. Could be fuel filter or in the fuel line. Can anyone recommend a reliable fuel specialist / mechanic in the north west area of Melbourne (we are staying in Braybrook)?

Cheers

Di

Cornell Fuel Injection. They're in Sunshine West and Footscray....

Prolly the best over that way. I remember 15years ago they picked up my MK shorty with the SD33T and took it off for a dyno. The thing came back like a new car.

Thanks again Mudski. We took the Patrol to Cornell's. Turned out to be a much bigger problem than just fuel filter. Ended up having tanks drained and cleaned, fuel pump over hauled, lines replaced. Got them to replace the injectors while they were at it.

Service from Anthony and other staff at Cornell's was excellent. Price was very good too.

We are so grateful for recommendation.

Yeah but WHAT was the problem? No disrespect but it sounds like they just did EVERYTHING! until the problem went away? did they actually find the fault?

What was your symptom? How much did it finally cost you? what year is your GU?

Glad you got it sorted.

Hi MudRunnerTD ... I am no mechanic (just the daughter of one lol).

The main sympton was the engine surging. We are pulling a large caravan and were struggling with the hills. But the surging was the giveaway that something was wrong. All this really started after a particular tank of fuel in S.A.

The fuel pump had wear on it and was having fluctuating fuel pressures. Rust and iron filings on the engine side of the fuel filter (which was replaced only a few thousand km's ago). We were planning on getting the injectors replaced when went back to WA, but since they had everything apart, we told them to do it.

The engine is now overall a better towing vehicle with more pulling power.

Our Patrol is 99 model GU 4.2. It has done 242,000km. Other than previously replacing the injectors once and fuels filters regularly, nothing else had ever been done on the fuel system. Cost was just under $4,500.

We still have a lot of km's to do over the next five months before heading home and we would rather be proactive than reactive when it comes to mechanical issues.
