View Full Version : What is involved in removing a body lift?

Winnie
3rd February 2013, 07:30 PM
Couldn't find any topic on this, so the new Troll has a 2" body lift which I wanna remove for a few reasons. 1 it's not legal, 2 I just don't like body lifts.
So what sort of things will I need to do this? Shorter bolts? What type of botlts? Different body mounts? I've got no idea, that's why I'm asking you guys!

Standard mounts. Also the bar work will probably be up the poop if it was made for the lift

Winnie

I'm gonna put my bulbar on it so no problems there!

Just shorter bolts Kris. If you ask around a member may well have a set of standard bolts after fitting body lift mate? Even the old owner may well have a set?? I might have some but not sure mate?? I don't throw anything out!

Pretty pricey for a bit of rubber

If the bar is modded for the lift, just swap it all over with the party bus so you will have the mounts and bolts.

And sell the party bus with the lift

That is a great idea! Assuming your selling yours without a RWC then just do that mate!

X2. The only bolts which may be an issue are the 2 rear ones. There a captive nut were as the rest are nut and bolt.
Most people go to a 12mm bolt when lifting so they may have mangled the rear captive nuts to get the 12mm bolts in..

Stock bolts are m10x100 metric fine, zinc coated..
Imo there are a little long and you can use m10x90 metric fine zinc bolts.

Yes you're right Kallen! I remember reading on his build thread that he drilled the thread out and put a bolt instead. Does this change anything?

Good idea Toddie, but I was gonna sell it with a RWC because people are lazy and will pay a lot more for a car with a roady. Then I suppose I have the issue of will the bullbar modified to fit a 2" lift fit on a standard car? I don't care if it looks silly but will it bolt on?

MudRunnerTD

Hey Kris once you have it and sorting it out then maybe put a Swap post on a mudrhino mate and you will likely get a bloke keen to swap his non modified bar for your modified for body lift bar. Straight swap. I don't think you'd have any trouble. They move a heap HEAP of stuff in the forsale and wanted / swap section there!

Winnie

Yeah I wouldn't care what sort of bar I get, just wanna get rid of the party bus asap

If you decide to go back to stock it mean you need 2 extra nuts for the rears.

As Westy said metric fine, that would be 1.25 pitch
are you using rubber or poly blocks,??
2" isn't that much above standard

I'm not interested in keeping the body lift at all.

Winnie
4th February 2013, 06:11 PM
Don't suppose anybody knows exactly what bolts I will need to remove the body lift and return it to normal? Being that the previous owner drilled out the captive nuts in the rear do those bolts need to be a bit longer then? Wanna get it done the day I get it so no buggerising around.

Make some plates 50mm x50mm cross scribe to find the centre, drill for clearance and weld a zinc plated nut on.
under and top coat with spray can, or Galvit style paint. If you know what you want PM what you want
Ii'll make and Express post to you

x 2 on that.

I wouldnt use high tensile bolts I'd would prefer to have the bolts bend/stretch rather than shear

It it's only the length of bolt you're wondering about, why not get a few extra bolts to have on hand?

FanTapstic!

Bloodyaussie

You should be able to get a length description on a parts list from Nissan???

Then go to a local bolt bloke?????

If you did not live in hiksville I would help ya!!!!

Just realized I have a whole car sitting here for parts????

As I mentioned though pop the rear 2 caps and see how they nodded the rear bolts. If they drilled threw it you'll need 100mm.
If they removed the captive nuts then 90 will be fine

So poo bear could of just picked yours up and saved me 17 bucks!!!!!!!!

And Poo Bear just for your info, I could of bought you 10 new M10x100 metric fine zinc bolts for 12 bucks, add a few extra $$$ for nuts and washers and still would have change from a 20 *LMAO* the advantages of still getting staff prices when u know longer work for that company :):):)
