View Full Version : Brighter Reverse Lights

I am thinking about replacing my reverse light globes with brighter LED's to make it easier to see at night.

Anyone know where I can get some that are just plug and play? I prefer to just replace the stock globes with something much brighter, don't want to muck around with any wiring/relays or mounting extra lights on the car.

For a Patrol GQ.

I think you might require a resistor in line for the LED, or is that just for indicators.

I checked ebay and patrolapart, found a direct replacement for the interior/cabin light but still trying to find something for reverse lights

I think you only need a resistor if the current draw is much lower... hopefully there are some which are powerful enough that you don't need a resistor, or have a built in resistor!

I have 440 smd LED plus a 36 watt led reverse light its like daylight in the bush at night
Each globe has 120 smd led, love em X 4 globes
Every globe in my 4x4 is either LED or HID
Only need either resistor or flasher relay for blinkers

Turns out I was limiting my search results too much by adding "GQ" in reverse lights (I did not want to get globes with the wrong fitting)

Someone else found me cheapies which also come with a projector at the back so it directs the light better, thought I'd share: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1156-BA15S-CREE-Q5-7W-White-LED-Reverse-Tail-Light-Bulb-Lamp-/300836270731?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item460b3d328b&clk_rvr_id=446777840833#ht_3127wt_1095

I've tried that style you'll be disappointed, trust me
I have a box of LED globes that I thought were bright
the 120 smd are the brightest by far IMO

be interesting to see how bright they actually are and what sort of spread they have, thinking they may have to much of a spot light effect

They dont spread have no distance and have a cut off point,
Plus its only 1 smd compared to 120

Had the globes in for 2 years now.
They are cool white and I love them
Even did the indicators, had to use 50ohm in line resistors
on each corner. Only ones I never changed as couldn't find one
bright enough was the front amber T20 globe.
Found some spring loaded jobs so might try them soon.
