HI guys finally got out for my first 4wding day trip with the gq and the family down to Yarhwal out the back of Nowra NSW . My brother led the trip as he nows the area , 1x Landy defender , 3 x patrols , and one cruizer 100 series . We started of with my middle daughter crying her eyes out and we were only on dirt roads [going to be a long trip at this rate ] but the handbrake gave her me camera to take her mind of it and it worked a treat [thank god for digital cameras = delet .] So all the kids were having a ball and all enjoyed it , which was one thing i was worried about . One thing that would of made the day would of been if it hadent drizzled while we were having lunch so all the kids could of burned some energy off . Ive been and owned 4wds before but not a patrol and i wasnt shore how it would go , to my amazment i was stoked at how she went . So the good thing about a day trip is it shows you wot things or mods would be a good thing so now the list will start. One thing which i think will be the first thing on the list is to get some new tyres , i have 31" BFG ATs which are starting to get down in tread so i see this as a great excuse to get me some 33" muds of some type and give me the much needed extra diff clearance and gripp . Well we had a great day out and am looking forward to many more adventures to come . Cheers guys have great week . Scott:wink:

Good work Scott, thats half of the problem sometimes is keeping the kids occupied in the back escpeciialy on long trips.

I remembers being stuck in the back of a 2.8 Hilux through the Simpson on many occasions and at the time hated it! The old man used to drive solid 14 hours a day and that killed us when your 8 years old with energy.

I'm going to invest in some cheap little DVD players that mount off the front seats for my daughter when she gets older on the long trips thats for sure...haha

Hey mate - top job on the report for the trip - hard to find that balance between the fun you and missus wan to have whilst still keeping the kids interested (I have 4 of them, so I know that pain!!). On the tyres side of things, everyone will have their own opinions, but I have installed a set of the Mickey Thompson ATZ 4 Rib in 33" and they are bloody awesome to date. Good grip on the black stuff, wet and dry, and with the pressure dropped, I reckon they'd crawl most places BFG Muds would go (close anyway). I've had Kelly's, BFG's, Maxxis, Cooper (ST's and STT's), and the MT's have been the best 'compromise' tyre I have had - good in most conditions. Food for thought anyway ... all the best with the decision (throw up some pics if you haven't already in the members ride section).
