Hi Chaps,
I have a 2001 trol 3.0 litre.
At the moment i have a problem with it i was wondering if any one could help.
When i start it just turns over it doesnt want to start usually after if stop for a moment and give it another go it starts up.
Heres the catch this only occurs when the car has been run for some time or as some would say the car is hot,it never occurs in the morning so i have ruled out glow plugs.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Could be a small split in a fuel line that is expanding and only leaking when heated up. Check for any wet spots along the fuel lines in the engine bay.

Just because you have cleaned it does not mean its not faulty. Follow this thread on how to check the maf.

If its faulty let me know. I have five coming and should have them next week.

The Maf seems to be showing all of the correct readings.
Any other suggestions.

When it doesn't start, do the warning lights (especially the check engine light) come on in the dash when the ignition is first turned on?
Are there any trouble codes?
Does it seem like the engine is turning over fast enough when cranking?
When it does eventually start does it blow any smoke?
When was the fuel filter last replaced?

Turns over just as it always has done.
Fuel filter changed 4 months ago at service interval.
When it starts it lets a puff of black smoke out just like it always has done when i have started it.
There are no trouble codes i have checked.
Check engine light comes when key goes in the ignition and disappears as soon as it starts.
NOt sure if it goes on when the hot start issue occurs ive never checked

How is your oil level ? Has it increased any on the dipstick ? Has your oil viscosity thinned any ?

If the check engine light is not coming on when it plays up you could have a faulty ECU relay.
Try swapping the ECU relay and ignition relay with other relays (of the same colour) and see how that goes.

The fuel return line from the injectors is underneath the rocker cover and there are five possible seals on the pipe where it may leak ,hence fuel leaking into the oil . Some of us have had problems with this happening , also the return line goes back to the inlet side of the pump ,which some think is not a good idea for our climate or longevity on the pump itself . So some of us have modified the fuel return line and teed it into the return to tank line and just put a bung where it used to go in the inlet . When mine was leaking , it was hesitant to start also but this was only after sitting overnight . Must thank forumites Chaz and big fletch on this topic . Two gurus about this topic . There is a thread on the DIY of this mod somewhere , if I find will paste it here for you to have a look . Just thought this might have been your issue . cheers .

I would replace your fuel filter again . A small dollar outlay for peace of mind , also put a bottle of diesel additive in your tank , maybe a bug in your fuel . How many KM 's has it done ? Have you tried with the air filter removed ?

What can i say im a fast guy!!!!
Put several additives in the fuel already...havent helped at all.
Will try air filter removal..its very clean its only 5 months old...will try anyway.
I have a spare fuel filter will change it and see what happens.
Car has 78,000 klms
