Hi all, I originally put this in my intro thread, but I thought it might be more useful here.
So I'm looking at a nice clean GQ, but chasing some advice on it and any other High mileage GQs...
It's a '93 GQ Wagon.
TB42E (Injected) with dual fuel.
2" Lift and 33" Maxxis Bighorns
$6,800
The reason I'm iffy about it is because it's done 440,000 kms. The owner says that it had a reco engine 100,000 km ago which is nice.
What other things should I be worried about in terms of the wear & tear on the rest of the vehicle like gearbox, diffs etc?
I like look of the burgundy over gold too. ;)

Mate even the motor with those kms would be OK. it should be fine as long as it drives straight, quiet and steers good. No whining diffs or clicking CVs.
It is Nice that the current Owner is telling you about the Reco Motor that is 100,000kms old........ Des it come with the Reciept for this work and proof that it was a RECO engine? or just his hearsay? If its just hearsay then its talk to sell a car and thats all its worth. He is banking on that talk getting him a better price too.
Taking the Reco engine out of the equation for a second....
Looks pretty clean in the pic but it basically only has a Lift and tyres and 440,000kms on her. I think $6800 may be a little high without the fresh engine.

Looks nice and clean, but everything on this 4x4 has done 400,000k,
IMO even with a fresh motor I'd wait a bit longer as the "Sale of the Century" could be just around the corner.
Even if you have to look interstate, another member here is after a clean TD 4.2 GQ and willing to fly interstate
for a good example. they are out there

This is the add from mudrhino that Mudrunner has posted link to.
If your interested in 4wd or about to begin the gq patrol is the GOD of 4wding
this model is an ST so comes with a few 'mod cons' (electric windows! central locking)
aside from that this patrol is a 93 model, so EFI 4.2L petrol is under the hood, with only 194000kms on the clock! manual, lifted all round 2" with king springs and ultima shocks. Iron man bull bar upfront with a tigerz11 12,000lb winch, dual battery system is installed, mcc snorkel, tow bar, Roof rack and UHF also included in the sale. (spotties are not)
Car will come with two sets of rims, the ' 16" Ti mags' with brand new road tyres and 15" sunraysia rims with 33" maxxis bighorns, also basically brand new (less then 5000km's)
im chasing $7500 or can adjust price with out accessories!

Damn, just realised that patrol was posted up for sale in March 2011... :(
Pity, cos that's pretty much exactly what I'm looking for.

If the recondition engine has done 100,000 then it can't be that great anyway. 100, 000 kms is a lot and there might be a need for at least a recondition head soon down the road.

I bought my 89 TB42 GQ with no rego, but a 10 year gas tank, mags, fresh tyres, alloy bullbar, tidy rig for $1250.
Sold the wheels and tyres, sold the bullbar, driving lights and nearly got my purchase price back.
Then spent 5 times that on s hit for it and have a truck forever, lol. It's got about 350k's on it. Motor is fresh, has a cam, extractors, exhaust and head done about 12mo before I bought it. I got receipts to the value of close to $8k with the car and was a 2 owner truck.
