Greetings all

I am looking at getting a roadside assistance package. I currently have three cars with an NRMA (one is due for renewal) but I have just discovered Budget Direct which is 30% less. Has anyone had experience with them or can suggest any others?

I have the Top Cover - Total Care with RACV, NRMA will likely be the same.

With Total care i am covered as the person. I qualify for Road Side assistance in ANY car that i am travelling in! anywhere in Australia! Its a great idea!

Also i can Nominate 1 car to be added to the cover where i am not there, i have my Wife's car as the nominated vehicle. Perfect!

Cant beat that i dont think.

Good question, sorry can't comment on them as I've never had any experience with either. I have RACV 'total care' and NISSAN roadside assist, never needed either.
Interested to see what comments others have on any roadside assistance packages. Heading off on a big trip in July and doubt they would come to my assistance in some of the places I'll be going.

Interested in the 'anywhere in Australia' comment, is that really 'anywhere'?

Cheers

Hi mate - it is - however they only cover you for in my package $165 of off-road recovery. But same as you and MR being covered as a driver in any vehicle and the car covered is a great idea.

Thanks for all your responses. I have had a look at NRMA Premium and it does not say cover for any car - you have to nominate the car. If you change cars, you have to wait 24 hours to use it I had a look RACV and they did not say any car either.

I just found another
http://www.roadsideassistance-1.com.au/
It is half the price of NRMA. What I find annoying with NRMA is that I have 4 vehicles, and can't have more than two driving at the same time, and there is no reduction for extra vehicles

angelo_f
22nd January 2013, 11:35 AM
That thing about driver being covered seems a great idea. NRMA does not have that - I am in NSW.

I am not sure if NRMA has the same deal as RACV. Living here on the border, I have heard that RACV will cover you at a NSW address if you live within a certain distance of the border. I have had total care for years and had to use it once (on a Toyota of course) - but it is a good feeling when you are many miles from home - knowing that IF anything does go wrong - you are fully covered for accommodation, hire car and the transport of your vehicle and trailer / caravan. A mate had his 4WD shipped from Darwin to Wodonga, and he had a hire 4WD to drive home. Its a great service.

Thanks everybody for your posts. NRMA have confirmed that they do NOT have a similar cover. I have to find out whether I can get an RACV membership even though I live in NSW.

That's really quite dumb! When you consider that if I was in Bathurst NSW and blew a fuel pump it would be NRMA that services me under a reciprical rights arrangement??? Go figure!

I'm with the raa. Similar to your nrma.
Extended towing, accommodation if needed and hire car to complete the trip. And endless call outs in any car I'm in.
Have used it a few times, but nothing major

If you have a Nissan genuine extended warranty you get Nissan roadside assist with it. Something to consider.

RACV Total Care package seems much better than Nissan roadside assist (except you have to purchase it). Not that I have had to use either - fingers crossed.

RACV informed me that membership is only valid for Victorian residents. However, their package seems so much better.
