I am fitting aftermarket speakers to my 02 GU wagon, there is an orange wire & a dark/light strip purple wire for the rear speaker, does anyone know which is the positive?

Got a test light?
But it shouldn't matter which way.

A test light won't help you with this.

Yes it does matter. If you connect the speaker up back to front, that speaker cone will be be travelling in the opposite direction to the other speakers, this will distort the sound.

this was what I was told as well because I rang a mate that use to fit stereos etc, that was why I needed the info on the wires, all good now

Easiest way to check this is a 2 person job, Get a AA battery and tap the wires on the battery, the 2nd person watches the cone, it will either move up or down, If it moves up the polarity is right, if it moves down you need to reverse your wires, as said it does matter as if you have 3 wired right and the 4th wrong it will sound terrible.

This tip was given to me by my uncle who was an old school car radio installer for Strathfield car radios back in the day, never failed me yet!

Cheers,
Eric.

Was going to say there should be a common thing between all of the negatives, and that's the trace.
So all the wires with a trace are negative.
