I have noticed recently first time starts in the day of my 4.2 TD 2000 GU the clutch peddle is hard to push in, as soon as it starts, all is fine. Where should I look. stevet

On the 3ltrs the clutch is vacuum boosted. So it will be stiff until you start the car and the vacuum builds up. Don't know if the 4.2's are vacuum boosted though.

its hydrolic so either the master cylinder under the bonnet or the slave cylinder on the drivers side of the bell housing probably needs new fluid in it is all you can replace it easy as or next service get your mechanic to replace it

Thanks mudski - I had a similar query - thought it was because of the vacuum but you have clarified for me.

its the vacuum on the brakes, when you start the car the vacuum builds up and makes it easier the push the pedal, mine is a 4.2.

My 4.2 has vacuum assisted brakes and clutch.. it may have a small leak and taking a little longer to work properly.

I wish, I just creak in the morning.
