2012 GU8 missing aircon condensor fan?!?!

Hi Guys.


I got a manual 2012 GU8 patrol. 3lt CRD

Noticed my aircon wasn't as cold as the mrs grand vitara.

On inspection i find my car doesnt have a fan that blows onto the aircon condensor when you turn on the air conditioning.

There's room for it but its just not there!?!?!

Mates 06 ZD30 and 04 TD42Ti both have the condensor fan.

CRD owners can you tell me if you have a condensor fan. GU8 owners can you please check yours.

Wonder if Nissan removed it or forgot....

I can have a look when I get home, where is the condenser located?

thx, condensor is located in the front of the radiator (same size but thinner)

The fan is located on the right hand side if you are looking at the front of the car. (passenger side)

Mine's the same mate, no fan.

The air con seems Ok I suppose, same as my old 08 Patrol

Okies thanks guys, will check if wiring is still there.

Wonder why is was removed? Maybe the "main motor fan" (forgot the name of this) is enough to pull air through the condensor and radiator?


Im keen to get a fan installed to assist the air conditioner when the car is idle. What are your opinions on this?
Thermo fan attached to the air conditioning relay.

It may end up blocking flow while moving, but at idle i assume it'll assist.

My air con works very well.... I have the same car as you. The temp over the last couple of weeks has not dropped below 40c daytime. Perhaps you should look else where??

Certainly wouldn't hurt to put a fan on it. It won't be blocking air flow as every other "normal" vehicle in the world uses a fan on the condenser. Maybe the Japs had a brain fart when building the new one and just forgot. But if it were me I would be putting one on.

ok i got a fan from a forum member. thanks.

I'll do a few test with and without, idle, cruising etc. and report back.

Wont be done until the next few weeks...(or months, hopefully not)

I had a look at a new Patrol at a Nissan dealer on friday and it doesn't have a condenser fan either.

There is also a gap of about half an inch in between the condenser and the radiator.

When the vehicle is not moving it will be getting very little cooling air going through the condenser even with the engine cooling fan on a lot of air will bypass the condenser due to the half inch gap between the radiator and condenser.

This will reduce the efficiency of the A/C on hot days especially when stuck in traffic or not moving at a reasonable speed.

I would also be fitting a fan.

I still haven't fitted the fan. Been lazy (fishing)

Will post results once I get onto it.

Recently did a 3000km trip in >35deg heat Air con was fine and didn't notice it working not working as good at idle. Probably because the fan clutch was locked due to the higher engine temp.
