Mate, the only diesel choice you have is the 2.8 or 4.2......... the 3ltrs were petrol

How much have you got to play with again?

Sorry bud, I'm tired as....... I didn't think the did the zd30 in gq, thought it was just Gu.......... thought you may have meant the RB30.

Zd30 first appeared in the series 2 gu as the rd28 replacement. Gq engines are the tb42 petrol rb30 petrol rd28 diesel and td42 diesel. Any other engine would be a conversion. For towing and fuel econ a well looked after rd28 with chip tune exhaust would be ok but prob be better off doing the same with better results to a td42

Has a ZD30 engine been swapped into a GQ; would like any info on this and what was involved?

it would be too hard to backwards engineer it

I think they were talking GU's and there was a typo.

Surely no one in their right mind would try and backward engineer the electronics etc of a ZD30 into a GQ.
I don't see any point. Surely you would put a TD42 into any donor GQ, cheaper engine, easier engineering, ballpark similar performance

Yes the OP did make a typo, however I would be interested if anyone did make the above conversion on the basis while researching the TD42 swap I was offered 2 ZD30 turbo's very cheap.
I simply presumed it was cheaper than the TD, more common and possibly someone had done it.

You got them cheap as no one wants them...sell them both a buy a slab of beer with the cash...

Thought he said he was offered them, not bought them

Cheaper... if you mean the cost of the second hand ZD30 versus TD42 engine, yes, if you mean the cost of the engineereing, hell no
More common... if you mean ZD30's in general probably yes, decent second hand ZD30's, hell no
Has someone done it... haven't even heard a rumour but maybe someone has somewhere, in a few more years as more CRDs become available maybe more will appear.

The bottom line is that if you want a ZD30di powered Patrol it would be easier and cheaper to go and buy a GU with a ZD30 in it already than do a swap out.

Why would you put a grenade in a GQ (early ZD30),
