CHILDREN as young as eight are believed to be among about seven people injured after a car slammed into a crowd of spectators at a racing event in Gippsland this afternoon.
The accident happened when a vehicle lost control and swerved into the crowd at an Australian 4WD Mud Racing Association event in Dalyston, near Wonthaggi, just after 4pm.
Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said paramedics, including pediatrics specialists, were assessing the victims, who were so far being treated for abdominal and leg injuries.
He said eight ambulances and two helicopters were at the scene of the crash ready to transport the victims to hospital.
Mr Mullen said it was too early to judge the seriousness of the crash.
Australian 4WD Mud Racing Association Treasurer Kelsey Ford said at this stage the association would not be commenting.
I hope everyone is OK.
Thoughts are with the kids, the families and the Driver
