CHILDREN as young as eight are believed to be among about seven people injured after a car slammed into a crowd of spectators at a racing event in Gippsland this afternoon.

The accident happened when a vehicle lost control and swerved into the crowd at an Australian 4WD Mud Racing Association event in Dalyston, near Wonthaggi, just after 4pm.

Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said paramedics, including pediatrics specialists, were assessing the victims, who were so far being treated for abdominal and leg injuries.

He said eight ambulances and two helicopters were at the scene of the crash ready to transport the victims to hospital.

Mr Mullen said it was too early to judge the seriousness of the crash.

Australian 4WD Mud Racing Association Treasurer Kelsey Ford said at this stage the association would not be commenting.

I hope everyone is OK.

Thoughts are with the kids, the families and the Driver

Motor racing is dangerous and people are made aware of this on admission.....

The thought of seeing a child hit by a car and hurt is distressing, I hope all are ok??

Normally just a muddy spectator sport, its motor racing accidents do happen and all practices are in place to prevent these ACCIDENTS, hope all are ok
Nissan GQ4.2 watch them have a field day with this. They stopped The BOHO BOUNCE cause 2 people died. case 1 the guy had a heart attack on a escorted trip. case 2 a guy in a 4x4 ran off the road avoiding a logging truck and died hitting a bridge pylon. insurance went sky high , hope they just report the facts but we'll cop the blame for sure . they are under cdmra or something like that. Simon may have been there or had a team

"interesting"? I would also use the word tragic to describe what will unfold for us as far as racing in vic.
