Hey Anthony I'm bloody bummed to hear you're having problems already... can't imagine how you feel. I hope it's just bad luck and not a dodgy patch up from the previous owner... but at the same time I don't?
Like Jonathan said I hope you and the family can get it sorted and see you at O'Tooles!

So when I drained the diff I only got just under 4ltrs out and it had some water in it I've now put the 4.7ltrs in I'm thinking this could be my reason for the LSD not working properly what's the best way to find out to see if its fixed now with out getting it out on a track as I can't tell on the road and it was only really noticeable when on the hills ruts etc

Put the rear up on stands, put car in 1st and spin one wheel, opposite wheel should spin in other direction.

26th February 2013, 07:31 PM
To test your lsd lift both rear wheels off the ground and rotate 1 tyre and the other should spin in the same direct then lower 1 side a try and spin 1 wheel again its should be very hard and turn at all untill the clutches slip, the tighter it is the longer it will take to slip

Alitis007
26th February 2013, 07:34 PM
Put the rear up on stands, put car in 1st and spin one wheel, opposite wheel should spin in other direction.

No it wont, a single spinner does that coz it has 4 spider gears in it. Doing that will try and start your motor like push starting untill the lsd clutch packs or cones slip!!

Just had a look at my bible and penrite oil chart and they both recommend lim slip 140 so thats straight 140 and i'm not sure if 85/140 will cause you any grief when its cold (85w) coz its thicker??

healy
27th February 2013, 12:25 PM
Ok so they turn together when up but when one is done the other does turn so if I just shim it up it should be fine?

The oil you put in is 85 weight cold 140 weight hot what is meant to be in it is STRAIGHT 140 like thishttp://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2013/02/134.jpg any brand will do.

Theres 4 options you have
1 is to just fix the centre
2 is reco the whole diff including bearings
3 bearings and some sort of locker ie minispool, air locker, e locker or a detroit true track locker
4 or a 2nd hand diff

healy

What's the shift lock fuse do? I don't have the fuse there and my transfercase dosnt register on the dash any ideas?

BigRAWesty
5th March 2013, 02:48 PM
http://www.motorbar.co.uk/patrol.htm

Up and down shifts are smooth, and some more oomph is instantly available for overtaking by simply pushing the button on the gear knob to deselect overdrive. The auto 'box features a shift-lock system as well as offering 'power' and 'hold' modes. Linked to the Patrol's dual-range transfer gearbox, it enables both high and low ratios to be easily accessed, while the automatic can be locked in first, second or third gear in either high or low ratios for safe, controlled progress off-road, making optimum use of the turbodiesel's considerable engine braking.

Odd there is no fuse. Got. A button?

broken wire on transfercase

I reckon Roofys onto something with this......before you pull the dash apart and your steering wheel out, send Yendor a PM, he'll probably be able to help you locate the right wire in the loom for the transfer case indicator.....
Be much easier to fix that I reckon.

So the old rig (gq rb30 carb) I put 35s on and had to change diff ratios 4.6s as it was lacking the power just wondering as I now have the 3ltr td gu and boost is up abit from stock when I can afford to get some 35s will I have the same prob or will it do any damage etc

boots
13th March 2013, 07:04 PM
Hi healy . Your gear / diff ratios and engine torque comparison old to new would be interesting to see the differences . If you are going 35'' with a 3 litre my only advice is upgrade your exhaust system first . You wont regret it on a DI engine .

19th March 2013, 09:52 AM

24th April 2013, 06:47 PM
Bummer mate :(

what started the fire, bare wire somewhere???

healy
24th April 2013, 07:08 PM
The wiring that was done in the rear barn door wasn't tied off properly so when you open and shut it it cut the wire and as I turned the light on it went up in flames not a happy camper

nissannewby
24th April 2013, 07:20 PM
Was there any qualified auto sparkys there checking over the work or anyone highly competent in that area?

There was a highly qualified person there but they weren't involved in the job. While it is a stuff up and I know it could have been worse but the work and effort was for a good cause.

I hope your enjoying your rig mate. Get it up to QLD so we can show you some real tracks :p lol.

healy
24th April 2013, 07:51 PM
I'm not having a dig at anybody it's just more of showing the issue so people may be more careful in the future Queensland will be on the cards again one day ill bring some decent tracks with me so you queenslanders can experience some proper 4 wheeling

Drewboyaus
24th April 2013, 08:43 PM
Mate, where was the bare wire?
The thing was fused so Should have blown the fuse out before catching fire.....
All the wiring I did was protected in conduit, that is a mystery to me.
I'm sorry to hear that has happened and really can't understand how....

Tip tip tip......tap tap tap....

healy
24th April 2013, 08:52 PM
On the big barn door the grommet where the wires were run through in the door side the metal hinge thing it slides when opening and closing its split the wires for the light strip and burnt out every wire up to the battery the black conduit was melted and bursted wires everywhere I could only keep the wires that never touched the left hand side it's fixed now all is good

Drewboyaus
24th April 2013, 09:02 PM
Bloody hell.
That seems very unlucky. I didn't run the wires in the door but I'm still miffed why it didn't blow the fuse.....

Tip tip tip......tap tap tap....

healy
24th April 2013, 09:20 PM
Yeah I'm not sure either mate all fuses are fine but I did bin them all

healy
29th April 2013, 02:07 PM

Ok people reg was canceled because car isnt fit or will ever be fit to be on the road as for the quarter chop that I was doing myself as stated before in previous posts im not selling the car all the running gear and other bits will be kept and cleaned painted etc by me im looking for a shell and chassis so I can get it going im not sure if it will be a GU or GQ depends on how much they are I did not see the point of keeping the reg on as it is not wise to drive it anymore it has been looked at by a few people now and everybody had the same conclusion if you have an issue or something to say im more than happy to listen but dont go behind my back and say things I hope your questions have been sorted if not post or pm me
