Hi Guys,

Great forum. I'm in the process of buying my first Patrol. It's a GQ 1991.

The machine I'm getting has an RB30 powerplant and 5 speed manual.

Can anyone give me any tips on what to look for before I lay down my hard earned for it on Saturday?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for greetings guys! I plan on being a contributor not just a taker here on the forum. Will take a bit for me to learn about these machines thought before I can offer anything too useful apart from 1/3 descent general mechanical advice.

A bit more specifics about the Patrol I'm looking at:

1991 GQ lwb
5 speed manual
RB30s engine
Dual Fuel
Not much rust at ALL
Mechanically Sound

Long story short, it'll cost me about $1000.

I'm looking to use it for daily driving and carrying my work gear from site to site.

I know the diesels are the best and the RB30 does worry me with regard to power and fuel consumption, but for what it's gonna cost me Im bit sure it's THAT big a deal?

Haven't driven it yet (picking up interstate), can anyone advise if the RB30 is up to the job, or should I just forget it?

Well I missed this one.. welcome mate. Another south Aussie to the team.

I can't say much on the rb30 engines, haven't owned one.
But imo if you can 1 - afford it and 2- find one the TD42's are the way to go.

But I notice you posted this a few days ago now.. how did you go with it?
