G'day mate.

I would appreciate it if you could head over to the introduction secton and post an intro thread please. We like people to say hello before asking for advice on the forum.

There is a fair bit written about fitting different size lifts on this forum, use the search function in the top right corner and see what you find.

After your intro you will find and get heaps of advice

Cheers MR

Hi mate now that's out of the way....

So a 4" lift needs a few things, the higher you go the more stuff you need.

Springs
Shocks
Caster correction - Drop Boxes recommended
Extended brake lines
Adjustable panard rods front and back
Adjustable drag link
Adjustable upper rear trailing arms
Extended diff breathers
Extended sway bar linkages

I think that's it........

And if you don't do the extras?

And if you don't do the extras?

Well it would feel worse than driving a cruiser

then your wheels wil stickout one side of the car you wont be able to drive in a straight line properly and you ll put uneven wear on your tires.

the other way to go if you just want to do springs and shocks is do a 2 in suspension lift an 2in body lift your choice

Rip out brake lines when flexing
Drive like a pig as all the suspension geometry is out
Scrub tyres...........................

I think it is fair to say yes, things would start breaking. That is understating it somewhat though.

Some people mix n match with varying success rates i prefer to buy a complete kit from the one person/company like in the link here http://www.bigo4x4.com.au/default.asp?page=suspension i bought the $3080 kit and installed at home

Oh so if it's a body lift you wouldn't need to replace all the extras?

Umm?

Ok. So it's a GU, a Body Lift is very Uncommon on a GU, they don't generally need them.

First question for you is.... What do you want a 4" lift for? What are you going to be doing with the car? Cause it looks good does not cut it.

much better but i think the wheels are too big, i think they will scrub the guards too much and could damage the paint work

I guess what the guys are saying is...... do you really need to go for a 4" lift, what sort of terrain will you be tackling? As really a 2" lift with a good set of 33" will get you most place........................ unless you want to go to the extreme places.

Getting back on the subject.
I too would like to go 4" and 35" for the fact of getting as much clearance as I can to avoid any damage on my new GUrl, having said that by the time she's old enough to start damaging I probably won't care anymore.

I would like live in hope that 2" and 35" fit without fouling too much.

Really I just like it cos IT LOOKS GOOD, and I can climb in.

I want to try everything before I buy but I know that ain't happening.

This is My GU with 3" lift and 285s after having a few huge lifts in other 4wds I can tell you that there is no need to go any higher than 3"!!!! Any higher is just for the look at me status IMO... My troll has gone every where my old 5" lifted 4wds have gone and then some!!!

1st pic of it looking sexy 2nd pic is at 4wd Action Photo shoot at LCMP stoped for more picks with some cool flex!!!!

A mate of mine has a 2" lift and 35s on his GU and they fit no worries. Looks crash hot too!

I run 35" Coopers on the GUIV 50% of the time and it has a 3" lift. needed to remove the front mudflaps and trim the inner section of the front flares a little (No big deal) and i have no trouble at all.
