Hi all knowing fellow patrollers
when i was a kid 8 - 12yo, i used to do a lot of trips to my relatives station 10 hrs north of Geraldton WA, at the base of the Kennedy Ranges.
Numberous times going up there with my grandfather we would have damage. he owned a commodore station wagon loaded up to the hilt. i remember he used to change out the springs and shocks before each trip to heavy duty springs but that was about all i remmeber.
1 trip i rememebr he punctured the fuel tank. all i remember is he always had a bar of soap in his tool box, and he made a goop with soap and something else worked a treat for the remaining 4 hrs of the journey.
another time the radiator had a hole in it, and i remember him putting an egg into the radiator. about an hour later he had to stop and put some pepper as well but it worked
another time, he broke 3 fanbelts on a trip and ended up using a pair of grans stockings
there was a time he rolled a tyre off the rim, and used a can of spray (CRC) i think like in a video posted in tutorials

does anyone else remember bush fixes for cars when they were growing up and travelling the bush
would love to hear them

mods if this is in the wrong area, please move to correct 1
thanks
Chris

Don't remember anything specific, but do remember the show with the aboriginal touring troupe who had that show on SBS - I remember the show where their trailer clapt out and instead of fixing it (bush mechanics), they cut the roof off the holden half way up all the pillars, turned it upside down behind the car, stacked everything on it, tied it to the car, and then literally dragged all their kit all the way to the next town ... had to see it ... it was hilarious!!! lol

Yeah that show was classic - they made anything work with anything. I remember seeing them replace a snapped axle with a tree and kept on driving.. not a care in the world. lol

A loooooong time ago I had a FB Holden that had extractors and a 12" hotdog hammered and tied to the end with 8 gauge fencing wire, bloody thing kept on coming off but always carried spare fence wire............and the hammer.
Got to love 8 gauge wire.

Don't know if it's bush mechanics or not, but travelling thruogh simpson, shocky was stuffed, so we removed it all together until stopping that night and replaced the pair.
