G'day,
As im planing a trip to Qld next month I decided to replace my windscreen as it was all pitted and scratched making it glare out both in the sun and head lights ,So i rang Windscreens "O'...." to ask for a quote,After having to give my name ,address, phone number she comes back with a quote for $390 for the screen and $190 for the seal.a total of $590,this i thought was a little to much lol
I Googled windscreen replacement in Melbourne (i live in Sunbury)and National windscreens came up so i gave them a call. Told the guy what i wanted and he said $225,i ask him is that just for the windscreen or seal,he say no its for both and we come to you :).. Hes just left, took a total of 30 mins,i have a new screen ,new seal and i saved $365.
So just a word to the wise, give Windscreens "O'...." a miss as they take advantage of people who don't shop around and rely on catchy advertising.
Have a good day.
Steve.

Good buy.
If you've got comp insurance, you might want to shop around for windscreen coverage included. From memory, I pay $60 extra on my premium and get one free windscreen a year. BUT, I must tell them the time and date and on what road and how the damage occurred, in order for the claim to be processed.
Just something to think about.
Take care out there.

Yeah i did that last year in the wifes car, it was like making an insurance claim but does not effect your policy. Windscreens Obriens are in bed with the Insurance so their price is the insurance price, Damn the Insurance are getting Ripped Off!!!

this is true, I deal with both most days, it upsets me what Obriens charge on some jobs

The thing is though Obriens get these contracts with the insurance mobs and it is not easy to get them! They're not worried about price as much as service etc...
We have a contract with Murray Goulburn at work, we supply all their electrical gear. Some of the prices we charge them makes me wonder how I sleep at night... But it was all organised by head office and Murray Goulburn care not about the prices as long as we can get stuff to them as soon as they order it... We drop everything for them.
We don't rip everybody else off though like the big O

Thats weird as I just had my windscreen done by them, Over Christmas my windscreen decided it would be goo to crack 15cm up the middle and 10cm left to the passenger side, Called aami and put in a claim for my free windscreen, when they guy came out I asked how much it was and he said 390-420 installed?
He never mentioned anything about a seal at all though.

You are probably right Bob, its a sad world when you can not speak the truth from your own experience.
On topic.
I rang "O" about a screen thinking I would get put throught to the local outlet who are blokes I know.
Had to get a price so the would call me back, good ta, as long as you dont use my number for anything else.
Get a call from a pushy salesman in an office somewhere, asked him how he got my number. From my quote enquiry was his answer.
Politly told him I want to deal with the local guys. Also please delete my details from his database.
He called me three times over the day, I wasn't polite any more!!!!!
Another bloke got the job and cost $220 fitted

Yea if your seal is intact then all good. I got mine done. By O'brains, went to pick it up and 'that'll be $110 thanks'.
WTF. They charged me for the seal.. its not part of the glass they recon..

U should always replace the seal when the screen comes out. Not sure about the GU but GQ seals aren't solid and have a seam which almost always tears

I just had mine done today after the kayak incident (see the "complete goose of yourself" thread) and not a cent was charged and very quick, they came to me. I pay $35 a month for something ridiculous like 5 free windscreens a year through GIO. This was through Mark from "O".
Edited: That should read $35 a year.

I have had nothing but bad experience with one of these so called windscreen places. is it a 4 year course or 2 two weeks riding shotgun to get your ticket. either way it took them two weeks 3 windscreens and still couldn,t get it right. that was with the boss doing it after I spat the dummy after the dent in my bonnet, I could go on but I may end up naming them, ncot
