First intro I was totally confused by all this I/T jargon (still am ) and didn't say that my name's Col, from Seaview Dwns. in Adelaide and my wife and I do a bit of offroad stuff on our way to bird watching, photographing and recording sites.
Don't mind sand, rock or old creek bed type stuff but draw the line at mud. Mud rooly sarks. Just lack the really macho stuff that lets you enjoy lying on your belly in deep set s**t digging yourself out.
Pity really because I'm sure it's really good fun.
Checked out the members map, but couldn't find the place to click my home on.Looks like a good idea but I obviously need to grow some grey cells and come back.
Maybe a few more home brews will do it.
Regards
Col.T

Nothing wrong with your grey cells Col, but have a few home brews anyway-you can never be too careful!
Todd takes care of the members map, just put a post in the map thread telling him what suburb or town you're in and he'll take care of the rest.

Mud is good fun to drive and play in, but the clean up afterwards is horrible, and it tends to get into places where you don't want it and start grinding away causing expensive damage. "Mud means money". I had my fun in it but avoid the stuff where I can now.

Col, follow this link http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=101638414667780968345.00049035ccd71ae3d988a&source=embed&ll=-31.278551,134.472656&spn=58.317788,70.224609&z=4

On the left hand side where the members names are scroll all the way to the bottom, underneath the word "Google: is 1 and 2, left mouse click on 2.

Scroll down the members list again, you should be the last one on it.

Left mouse click on your member name, it will bring you up on the map in a dialog box, left mouse click on the word "MORE" in the dialog box, then left mouse click on "Zoom Here"

Hope that helps you out, as you are on the map

Cheers

Todd

Hi Col, I am from Adelaide to but I don't know where to find mud around here!!!! I went up to Wilpena pound after the big rains this year but most of it had already been soaked up. Other than that it has just been sand a rocks for me :) All that was in a zuk though so I am looking forward to testing out the Patrol in the same condidtions :)

thanks for the note.
Mine's the same as yours, that is a stock 2008 3l turbo. Had a 4.2 GQ for about 15 years and the new one is a bit of a shock. Like using the engine down through the gears to brake the car and/or van just doesn't have the same effect with the turbo belting along. Also the low rev grunt of the 4.2 worked brilliantly in rough stuff but this baby may need a whole new lot of learning.
Still, there's fish to catch and birds to photo so we'll get there.
Good luck with ypurs.

Hi Col, interesting you say that because the 3L doesn't feel like the 1st 4 low is as low as I expected. I haven't got on the rocks yet so I may be wrong. I hope the 3L is able to idle along in first without stalling but we will see. In any case there will be plenty of learning going on for me too :)

Hi Col T...Welcome mate, and always welcome in Australias best city - Coffs Harbour.

Baileys, or should that be Major Tom?
Ta. Long time since I was in Coffs. Gotta be over 30 years at least. Quite possibly changed since then.
Still dream of taking the bike up to Dorrigo (and even further) from Coffs then down again then up again etc. etc. till I get so old I just fall off it and wake up on the same stretch of road in heaven.
Again, thanks and good viewing
Col.

Have you got a manual throttle on yours? I did on the old td42(89 model) but not on this one. Was brilliant in particular areas and I think I'm really going to miss it on the 2008. Do agree though, low revs performance feels different. We'll see when it gets a good workout

Thanks Col T... should be "ICE T" I think it has more of a ring...don't you?

Bails
Got a feeling "ICE T" is a term something quite a bit more modern than me. Like either spaced out, freaked out, blown out, drugged out, chilled out or rapped out.
Got the last one with a quick search, (Hell I hate 'Google' as a verb, it really really sucks I reckon). Anyway , didn't have a clue so had to cheat but tuff t*t.
Fact of the matter is the only 'ring to it' I know is the sore a**e you get after too long on the bike. Still without a bit of adrenaline you really aren't there anyway. Like they say, you're here for the good times not the long times.
Hang in there
Col
