Hey guys,

my dad has a 96 GQ ST Patrol Ute in immaculate condition, and i plan to get it in a years time when i get my license, so far its pretty stock standard except from 33X12.5 Cooper Discover STT's mounted on 15X10' rims all round, HID lights all round, JVC Head unit and 3' Lift.

I am planning on putting new speakers in but am unsure on what speakers to use and if i need spacers or not ? i am also wondering how i mount a speaker in the drivers side door ? (because its an ST it only has 1 speaker from factory)

any help would be greatly appreciated !! Thanks Guys !!

Jess,

Not being smart, but mate do a search on GQ front speakers, I put new JVC'c in the front of mine and needed to make some spacers,

But mate there are plenty of posts on here so you should have no trouble finding what you need.

As far as the additional speaker, maybe try a wrecker fo a GQ front door trim to use as a template for the drivers door.

Good luck with it

The speaker hole should be in the door, cant see em making a new inner door pressing for no hole
The trim should have an indent in it for the hole on the inside
Whats the doors 6 " or something, theres some serious 6 " speakers out there
I just got some wee 4 " 200 watters for the wifes toy
But your right re threads and posts around, should be plenty on the subject

Yeah 6" fit in the doors nicely,

But beware getting speakers that are too deep, as you then foul the window winder assembly inside the door and need spacers, but then if the speakers stick out too far its a pain to wind down the window as you bash your knuckles on the speakers.

I found around 45mm deep with a 10mm spacer works really well.

I wasn't aware the trims would have a marking on the inside(as mine already had factory speakers fitted), so just thought if Jess got an old trim that already had the hole marked it might make life easier.

I've got 6.5" splits in my front doors with a 1" spacer but I've got electric windows so no fouling there.

Yeah thanks heaps guys, I'll try and get some 6" speakers that arnt to deep and make a 10mm spacer, I'll work something out with the other door skin, just cut a hole in the door skin with the hole saw !

Jessie,

im not sure how you come about that the ST only has one speaker?
it should have 1 speaker in each door.

I went a little over board with new speakers with mine,
but for about $200, and a couple of hours of labour.. ended up with this..

If you have electric windows then have a look at this thread

It doesn't have electric windows and the one speaker is just beside the window winder on the passenger side door ! I know the ute hasn't be studded around because my dad bough it brand new in 1995!

If it doesn't have electric windows I'd say it's not an ST?

ST utes didn't have power windows, still had winders.

does it have vinyl flooring or carpet?
2 seater or 3 seater?

ST:
2 seater, carpeted, centre console & it had 'carpet/material' on the door cards.

can you post up a pic of the door?

ive never heard of a ute only coming with 1 speaker.

Wouldn't an ST have carpet? They are the second highest model
