Just got this from the Sydney Morning Herald,

They fined a bloke for being grossly under prepared whilst hiking through the Blue Mountains and 2 rescue helicopters having to be called out.
Not before bloody time, now they should make him pay for fuel, wages etc for everyone involved.

sometimes its genuine, others stupity, they should be looked at on a case by case basis imo

I appreciate what your saying 3dogs,
But I think the fact they actually fined him and from reading the article, this bloke was a prize winning Christmas TURKEY.

Considering the blue mountains supply PLB's free of charge and the guy wasn't carrying one.
Besides been charged what the fine is he should made to pay for the helicopters been in the air as well
He was not prepared for the hike at all

He should have been made to pay the whole cost of the rescue, not the taxpayers

If there not carring a PLB they should be fined the whole rescue cost. Simply as that really
