Doesn't sound good.
What's the condition and level of the fluid?
How do you know it's third gear that it's stuck in?
Maybe time for a auto specialist?
Where are you located?

Was it doing it before the oil was changed?

Maybe you did some damage to the wiring loom or got mud/water in there?
But taking that long to get into reverse would maybe suggest worn clutch packs??? (I'm no expert!)

It sounds like you have a few electrical issues. The tacho gets its feed from your alternator generally and what you describe is happening with your auto sounds electrical too. A thorough going over of all wiring and connections may solve this, could even be an earth missing or damaged. I would have a good look at this first before forking out money for another box it could be a very simple fix.

got a fully manualised auto for $200, had a LS1 infront of it. anyway, took it for a run down the beach after we did the box change. went to go up a track and it died in the arse, lost all spark. checked the dizzy cap and the points are pretty shot and the rotor button looks bad aswell. lucky me mate came down in his gq to tow me home
