my gu radiator problem with photo

thanks for the responses to my radiator problem, I have attached a photo of the broken fitting - I hopoe you guys can give me an idea as to what purpose this serves and by inserting a self tapper screw will this effect the radiator or engine performance, I have not found a loose hose in the engine compartment, I cant recall there being anything attached to this fitting.

If I am looking at that correectly there is usually a hose that goes from there to a header tank on the passenger guard. But if it was blocked off to begin with I wouldnt worry to much.
