Hi all, I just filled the car from empty (as per the fuel gauges) for the first time. I had a 70 litre LR tank fitted in place of the 30 litre factory sub tank. 2012 ST Patrol. Its a ARB/longranger tank.

When I filled the sub tank it would only take 31 litres???? Whats the story with these tanks. I would assume an empty 70 litre tank would take 70 litres??

Hope they didn't replace your main tank with the 70.

There's the funny thing. There was still a quarter of a tank showing on the main tank. That that took 108 litres to fill???? Isn't that only a 90 litre tank??

So 108 + 31+20 (a guess based on still having a quarter of a main tank) = 159 litres..... This is weird.

BTW I am getting 11.9 litre per 100klms around town. We are leaving for a trip to Kings Canyon tomorrow. Will be interesting to see what I get on the hiway.

Maybe stuck your head underneath and see which tank looks new? Should be pretty easy to tell

The new tank sits across the back of the car. More or less under the cargo area.....

Very weird things happening here. I think I should have a real good look at the snorkel. I had the bull bar, tank and snorkel all fitted at the same time at the local dealer here. They fitted the wrong bull bar, looks like the tank is screwy, I wonder whats wrong with the snorkle?? Christ , why is it so hard to get decent service??

It sounds like you have a long range main tank fitted if you have paid for a long rang sub and got a long range main then that's a score

No idea if my '06 GU cab chassis would have it's tanks positioned the same as on yours or not, but mine (90l & 75l) has the sub tank at the front & the main tank at the rear.

Looks like you scored yourself a long range main tank

Pretty much the same cuppa except the wagons only get a 30l sub as it has to fit under the body of the wagon and in our utes they make them larger using the space under the tray.

Usually a long range main will be about 145l and a long range sub 70 for the wagons. So if you have paid for a sub and got a main then you have scored more fuel quantity for less :).

If this is the case I will be down to ARB tomorrow and have the70 installed as well!!

Checked the invoice that I paid and I only paid for the 70 litre tank. Looks likeI did alright out of this....

I would not go back to the place you got it from they may notice... There is some apprentice out there that doesn't have a job anymore...

Thats what I was thinking. Luckily the dealer and ARB here are two different business's..... And I have no intention of letting the dealer here lay a spanner on my car.

Don't push your luck...someone will end up noticing.....

I'd say take the win, as you now have a long range tank anyway.

Don't you usually get more ltrs upgrade by doing the sub tank over the main tank ?

good score on the tank, same as the main on my 4.8

I think that its just 15 or so with the LR main tank.

145 + 30 = 175

90 + 70 = 160.

But I am thinking that 145 + 70 is starting to sound appealing. With deisel up at $1.71 a litre on a good day and over $2.00 at remote places the extra range might be a good thing.

arb probably supplied the tank in the first place,i wnt to arb for a job to be done as
nissan was to dear and low and behold nissan showed up with the part anyway
but still got it done cheaper than the other workshop

so with both tanks done thats 215 ltrs
so almost another 100 kgs to add is it worth all that extra weight o forgot the extra weight of the tanks

When you sort this one out be aware that the bowsers are not all calibrated evenly. Thelma has an 80 L main + 30 L sub tank. I have put 39 L in the subtank... didn't bother filling the main tank from that bowser.

A 70lt AUX tank would cost around $800. the sender unit may not have be set ,but by the position of your tank you have a main replacement.
Bringing your OE tank from 95lt to about 150ltr

Thats the main tank, Cobber... and a Long Range main will hold 140 to 170 (approx) depending on manuf.

The Aux tank is beside the chassis rail forward of the rear axle drivers side. If you got a LR main and paid for a LR Aux I wouldn't be saying anything ;)

However, even if you get them to fix it all up I'd never go there again as they appear to have a major quality control issue.

A long range aux will normally require a "bent" drivers side control arm for the rear axle as well.

Then the poor bugger who got your AUX tank upgrade.

First up good score with the LR tank.. keep it quite for sure.

And secondly I can second non calibrated browsers.. my Nissan took 102ltrs from a 1/4 full factory 90L tank.. I pushed the issue and pulled out tge manual to show tank size... I needed up with a full tank if free fuel.. but haven't gone back...

Yep I can agree to that. On out trip up north we had two spikes in fuel consumption or incorrect litres going in and both were at Laura (bottom of the Cape). One on the way up and one on the way down. The difference was around 15%. You have no choice but fill up there so yeah. I would rather they put the price up then try and rip you.

Have you emptied both tanks yet, and refuelled again. Just incase you weren't paying real attention at the pump.
