Hi,

just picked up my GQ from a dealer. Please can you tell me if they should have re-certified the LPG installation as the current certificate expired about 2 years ago? I'm pretty sure they said they were going to, but I didn't get another certificate or anything.

Thanks

LPG inspection/certificate is required whenever a safety certificate is done. LPG tanks need to be inspected and recertified every 10 years.

Thanks, should it be checked as part of the RWC? (That's been done, I just need to get a copy on Monday from the dealer).

cheers

It's a separate inspection and certificate. The LPG certificate number needs to be recorded on the safety certificate. I'm sure it's the same in all states.

hi,

I had a look around the engine bay and tank. There's a plate in the engine bay from the Victorian alternative fuels registration with the installation date of 1998 and then there's a plate near the tank from the installer, which had the same year stamped on it, but it's also been stamped over to make the "98" into an "08" (which must have been done when the previous owner had it). I'm new to LPG, so wanted to check if this is the normal way to recertify the LPG system and is it enough to show it's already been done?

Many Thanks

No not in my experience, if the tank as been inspected & re-stamped it will have a separate metal tag riveted to the tank near the original ID plate with its new test date & a certification number as well.

Thay are also meant to provide some paper work that go's with it to keep in with your rego papers as well.

This info is Vic based though & may not aply in other states.

Before I sold my last GQ I had the LPG tank recertified. On that tank there was a space for retest date stamp, so that's where they stamped it. With out the tank inspection certificate there is no way of knowing if the tank has been recertified properly or if some one has just restamped it themselves. It will be up to the person doing the LPG inspection whether or not they are satisfied that the restamping is genuine.

Thanks again both. When I renew the rego, will an inspection be required of the vehicle including LPG? Is this when they will look at the installation plate? Worse case, if I have to pay for a LPG service, how much is that likely to cost?

I could also go to the original installation company and ask if they have records of it being serviced recently.

If you have to get annual inspections done in your state then you may need annual LPG inspections as well. In Qld we only need the inspections done for change of owners. LPG inspections should be about $100.

had my pink slip inspection done 2 weeks back. Had to use an inspection station that was LPG certified. All he did was check the date of installation and a quick visual check for wear or damage, advised me to move the inlet hose for the LPG to the carby, as it was to close to the exhaust manifold. Then completed the rest of the safety check in more detail. Im in NSW.
