Thought I'd update this as it's been a little while

Just before cup weekend the Silverstones had had their day and it was time to get some new boots:

http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p30/reddavehasbeentaken/null_zps0d8fa6c8.jpg

Goodyear Wrangler MT/R, it was a toss up between these and Procomps, but couldn't justify the extra for a similar tyre

Took the kids away up near Dargo over the cup weekend, I really need to get an exhaust and chip on this thing if I want to be towing the camper around. That's next

After the trip to Dargo, decided to put my GQ ute build on hold and build a comfortable tourer/fun weekender so pulled the front and rear lockers with 4.6 gear and put them in the GU.
Mounted the locker switches

Stripped the rear diff

http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p30/reddavehasbeentaken/null_zps666683f4.jpg

Attempted to strip the front and found some siezed wheel bearings, was a nightmare to get the hubs off.

The wheel bearings are less than 15,000kms old but there is water/moisture getting in the hubs somehow.

Got the front end stripped finally

Wrote a list of parts I need to steal off my garage floor from the ute, cracked the ****s and went home.
Went into work today and spent some more time on it.

Lockers are in, went for a what was meant to be a quick squirt into Gembrook to give them a test run.....

3 hours later, I finished Anderson's.

Drove the first 3/4 of it no worries, even got straight up first go at the first climb.

Caught up to a group of 5 guys in stock cars that were struggling to get up the final section. After helping them winch up the last section I asked them if they wouldn't mind waiting around while I got up, Just to be safe!!!

Famous last words!!!!

Came over the top of a washout dropped straight into some mucky mud with the pedal very loud and heard a pop.

I then lost all drive to the front wheels, winched about 40 metres and then there were no trees left :(

No one in the group that I had come across wanted to back down and pull me up. As a last minute ditch attempt to get me out of the ****, I manually locked the auto hubs and then just drive straight up the top.

By then it was time to go home.....

Back to the shop for manual hubs and work out what went wrong.

Apart from that the lockers work ace, I will miss the LSD, but just need to put a little bit more thought into the way I drive off road

Pulled the hubs off and found my problem, the auto engagement wasnt working properly and was just spinning on the shaft machining the end of it.

http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p30/reddavehasbeentaken/null_zps269fed0d.jpg

Whacked my spare set of manual hubs on it with my Racebred 4wd strengthened hub rings, this should be better.

Would still rather crap a hub than a CV, makes it a lot easier to replace on the side of a track lol

Bar didn't work out like I wanted, so there goes a bar :(

Rang Raslarr and ordered one of their competition tube bars with headlight hoops, looks like this:

This will fit the highmount as well as a lowmount, hopefully be ready to pick up before Australia Day weekend

Did a sneaky drive to Shepparton last night to pick up a Safari DTronic chip, fitted it this morning and went for a drive, WOW is all I can say.

The flat spot off idle is gone and I have torque available on tap now throughout the whole rev range, once I get a bigger exhaust the benefits will be even more

Look what turned up:
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p30/reddavehasbeentaken/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsacfcc474.jpg

Hopefully this should give it a bit more poke, 3" exhaust, replaces the whole exhaust from the back of the turbo.
Fitted the exhaust, doesn't sound any different but turbo spools a lot quicker and it feels a lot more responsive, especially in the mid range.

Drove up my test hill on the way home from work, normally by the time I am halfway up I have dropped from 80 to 60 and EGT's are well over 500 degrees C, with or without the chip.

I can now accelerate /keep a constant speed up the hill and EGT's sit at 400 degrees C

I should have put the exhaust on years ago!!!!

Now just need to find someone that can fine tune the Safari and get as much as I can from it

Went to Toolangi last weekend:
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p30/reddavehasbeentaken/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zps9822cce8.jpg

New bar fitted, Rob at Raslarr was a pleasure to deal with http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p30/reddavehasbeentaken/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zps4209a3fa.jpg
Winch fitted today and got some eyelets for beside the winch to hold the hook
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p30/reddavehasbeentaken/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpseebf7c86.jpg
Winch is all wired up, just went with a normal hand controller for now.

If I spend all winter winching then I'll be wiring in-cab controls, but for now just trying to keep it simple.
Spooled on 30m of rope off the low mount until I can afford to buy longer rope.
Fitted 4 new speakers, patrol speakers are crap and work when the want to!!
And picked up an alloy Rhino tray, about 3/4 length, just need to get some cross bars for it and then I won't need to put firewood in the back of the car anymore (got sick of cleaning out sawdust)

Still got a small list to achieve before Easter when I take the kids away, and then a trip to Haunted stream over Anzac weekend

Reddave. Remove the muffler in your Reback exhaust. I have the same system and removing that muffler made another good improvement. Not noisy and very little droning too. And I drive my troll every day.
