Hi all, whats peoples thoughts on steel wheels for a 2012 ST. We are planing a Kimberly trip in June/July next year with some friends ( We call them friends even though they drive a cruiser) I can see the alloy wheels getting a little banged up on some of the trips we will be doing. I am thinking maybe even getting slightly larger wheels.......

285/75 r16 on 16x8 Rockcrawler steelies is the to mate.

My GUIV runs that setup for touring and it works great. 16 inch tyres are cheaper and easier to find out bush too.

Plenty of peeps go out on trips using their standard alloys and gain no damage but if you do go the steel wheel route, 16in rims with 285x75x16 rubber would be a good common option...:... Others who are a damn sight more knowledgeable than me will pitch in with some advice soon enough.

Don't stroke it, TAP it!!!!.....

Sell the alloys and you can get 2full sets of king rims and will be less likely to work the nuts loose.

Agree with whats being said 285 x16 on 16x8 " rims for outback touring.
plus you dont have to stick to just black or white steel rims.

Thanks guys, looks like I can get the rock crawlers here for $145 each for a set of 5. Might go with 6. I'll keep the alloy wheels for not so off road stuff.

When you blokes are talking about steel wheels for outback touring are these tubed or tubeless type wheels?

My truck came from Alice, where it had obviously been exclusively used in outback conditions & came shod with split rims wearing 235/85r16's

Are the 285/75's referred to taller or wider?
