Hey guys, received my 2008 gu CRD patrol and noticed its really hard to start!

Its turning over fine but just wont get that initial spark.

To get it started I've had to roll start it and also pump the accelerator pedal whilst turning the key.

Once shes up and running its fine.

Ideas of why it wont start which I think may be the problem is:

- Glow plugs
- Dying battery
- Air in fuel line

ways of testing the issues of what could be wrong with it would be appreciated too.

Cheers,

Will

My diesel mechanic said me that if my engine begin to start hard шт in my case (after rebuild when all other parts in good conditions ) doubtless it will be plunger.

Does it eventually start without pumping the accelerator? From what I understand about crd's especially they are injected and there is no need to pump the go pedal at all I think it sounds like glow plugs, could also be bad fuel filters.

Id b cheakn the glow plugs, dsnt sound like a battery if it keeps turning over. Cnt hurt 2 run a meter across it tho

Sounds to me like glow plugs as well. I would be starting there and if identified as not that then look at your other options, however (and I could well be wrong - usually am!) doesn't sound like they would be causing it based on your description.

Definitely the fuel lines.

Although cant see any crack in the hoses?

Could it possibly be the primer? (that is letting in air)

Because the primer wont go hard after priming, just returns to being a soft squishy primer, and sometimes you can just feel air alone inside of it, no fuel at all.

Any suggestions?

P.s. the coil light for the plugs is still on? and starts after hurrying from priming the fuel line to starting the ute.

Just checked the glow plugs with a circuit tester and all good.

Has to be air in the fuel lines or filter o-ring or something...

Keep the suggestions coming.

Should I change the filter if its 40,000kms old?
