Hey guys, I recently bought a td42 05 patrol ute. Now its either very slow or the turbo isnti making boost. Theres no smoke, No noise it just feels like i can hear the turbo spooling but not receiving any power from this, I just installed a 3" straight through exhaust that helped alot but its still a slug monster. Got pyro, boost an boost controller awaiting to go in. Maybe i wait an see what boost im running. Or could the turbo be stuffed?

No they are slow in factory trim even with a 3" exhaust go and get it tuned to about 14 psi and you will be loving it, it will be a new car with a decent tune under its belt.

Yeah, I fitted a Denco kit and 3" exhaust to a N/A TD42 DX wagon I had a few years back. I was surprised when it made no difference to the performance at all but all the right noises were there. My first tuning attempt destroyed the clutch on the dyno. After fitting a new, heavy duty, clutch and going back to finish the tune, the difference was amazing. From memory I got about 50% more power and a decent increase in torque, about what Denco quoted as the maximum increases. It was also more economical if driven conservatively but when you've got the extra power, you tend to use it. I've spoken to a few guys with the factory turbo 4.2's who's experience with a tune, as nissannewby says, is a completely transformed car.

Cheers,

Scott
