View Full Version : Trekster's 98 GU

G'day guys,

Recently bought this bog stock 1998 GU 2.8td for $7k, 1 owner since new with alot of service receipts, has a 6month old clutch and rear main seal done in it, cargo barrtier and a solid roof basket on it too.

Ripped the barrier out for now as the frame work it was bolted too had gone rusty (Previous owners used to have a lab in the back and it brought in alot of sand and salt water)

Just got it detailed today as it wasn't looked after the best inside and out, so now its a little more cleaner and nicer to sit in :D

Future plans include some 33's, 2" lift, bullbar (already have a winch sitting in the garage), some storage in the rear to house recovery gear, a uhf etc.

Thanks for looking!

G'day Eric,

Just a short distance from you is Mount Coramba and the Morbid Trail.

Call into Coffs Harbour TJM and see Kevin Smith from Coffs 4WD Tours. Tell him Paul from this forum told you to call for advice where play and visit.

Kevin has produced a book titled Coffs Coast 4WD Destinations. Compulsive reading if you intend playing around this beautiful location! Coast about $30.00. Mention me to either Kevin or Mark to see if they will give you a discount/increase on the book! Also speak to Mark the owner of TJM, he too has a mountain of local Knowledge off the area!

PS, Keep an eye out for Kevin s camping articles of the Mid/North coast of NSW. Great reading, packed with heaps of info.

Regards,

Paul (RLI)

Hi Paul,

Yes know Kev have met him a few times and bought some dvds etc off him, very nice guy indeed! I've already got the booklet he made up :D very fine article, I went with my father-in-law and found the spot of the old nana village with his map.

Have been to the top of mount coramba, We did rover trail in my jeep, only 1 spot near the start at Gaudrons road did I need to get winched up as I only had some mild a/t's and couldn't get up the step.

Itching to get the patrol out soon and go for a wander!

Drove up to check out Station Creek and Pebbly Beach, unfortunately the tide was too high and Pebbly beach was a no go, so drove on the beach went and checked out Station Creek camp grounds then headed back to Arrawarra headland for lunch. Heres a couple of pics and one of the in-laws car as well.

Bit of an update:

Since purchasing the car I've attended a bit to the rust in the rear door area, at the moment I've got it primered until I can decide the best way to treat it so it doesn't return, Also cut a piece of board I had in my garage to suit as the floor for my small drawers that I will be knocking up.

Also ran power for my 3way in the rear, solid power lines with a relay and switches up front, installed a 2nd hand uhf and aerial onto the bullbar, installed some indicators for the bullbar that I sourced off a member.

Boost gauge is temporarily installed awaiting arrival of gauge cup to permanently install it.

Heres some piccies!

Before Rust, Removing Rust, Primered, Power cabling in rear, With Cargo Barrier in, indicators, power setup under bonnet, First attempted Camping expedition to Scott's Head (Next day got washed out :( )

Hey Paul,

Shady haze window tinting in Coffs, Jason used to work at traction tyres as their tinter before the business changed hands, he has now gone out on his own and his prices are excellent ($200) in any % you like, Mine was 20% and comes with an Australian wide warranty on the film. I was very pleased with the result given that some of the prices I was quoted was $275, $325 and $400+ !!!!!

I then took our friends to an old village (Nana Village) just outside of Nana Glen, It was where they used to bring the quartz down to treat it with Cyanide and stamp it at the battery to get the gold out.

We stopped to show them a roadside mine, and my mate and I decided to walk it, 70m long cut into the solid rock over 100years ago!

G'day Eric,

Does the 2.8 motor have any side bung plugs on the front passenger side of the motor, like in the photo below of my 4.2 motor? If so, you can fit your sensor there, using brass fittings from Pirtec! Note the plug next to the factory temp switch, the heater hose is directly above it!

Hey Paul,

Nah they don't unfortunately, The thermostat housing is on the drivers side of the block and about 1/3 of the way down, No bleeders on it just the hose from the radiator, I've never seen a setup like this, I'm used to the thermostat housing with a bleeder being at the top of the motor, seems the bleeder on my car is the radiator cap lol, It's the highest point of the whole system..... Anyhow I'll just either make at work or buy a fitting to this nature
