Hi all. Appreciate comments ideas from other forum members on what would be the ideal EGT to give best fuel economy.
With correct tuning giving optimum air/fuel ratio, our mighty 4.2TD's will fly and still return decent fuel economy. (well with a few suitable modifications)
However if over fueling, the black smoke would confirm the higher EGT and economy would suffer.
Higher boost reduces EGT or allows extra fuel to be used and still keep good air/fuel ratios with extra power available.
So what is the best EGT for fuel economy. My guess is the lower the better within reason-say
350/400C
I've just replaced injectors and noticed more power and lower EGT at same speed going up "dyno hill" near home. Boost unchanged at about 10/12psi, EGT just over 350C and half throttle doing 100klm/hr. To much throttle and EGT's go up but so does speed--quickly.
