I have a GU series 2 with ZD30 stock apart from an aftermarket air oil separator, 220,000 Km. It recently began to loose oil. A little checking found that the turbo inlet hose was very oily and the inside of the oil air separator was saturated. My first thought was turbo seal so I installed a catch bottle on the crank case breather line cleaned the inlet hose and went for a drive. Two hundred km later I had 4 liters of oil in the catch bottle. At idle with the hose off the breather connection its blowing a pretty fair volume. This points towards piston ring bypass in which case I would expect to see exhaust smoke, low power and slow starting. It seems to be performing normally apart from the breathing. What am I missing???
Does any one know if the ZD30 has a restrictor or crank case pressure control device? My manual doesn't show one.

mate just post up an introduction with a little about yourself and your rig its nothing personal we ask it of all new members and im sure some one will reply soon enough.

Same as above intro yourself that way we know a bit about you and vice versa, get a better response to.
so welcome to the forum , do you have guages fitted?? EGR blocked???

Thanks for the reply,
Yep, Boost and pyrometer, both are reading the same as before the oil consumption dramatically increased. Boost is all over the place depending on what the EGR valve is doing but never goes above 15 psi. At 100kph on the flat unloaded it sits around 5 psi ( the EGR usually operates at about 90 kph under light to moderate throttle) Pyrometer probe is fitted at the turbine inlet and shows 850 to 900 F on the flat at 100kph. As you can guess from the foregoing the EGR has not been blocked off. As I mentioned in my first request piston ring bypass was the first thing that came to mind but every diesel I have encountered with worn rings has to be wound over on the starter until enough heat builds up in the chambers to start the fire. This thing starts after about one revolution with or without glo plugs???

Think you need to PM ferret to block your EGR valve. Next I'd be fitting a DAWES and Needle valve ,IMO you need more boost to get your EGTs down.
I sit on 250-300 degree C at 100kph, get your boost right check hoses for splits and use constant pressure clamps
