Hi all. The antenna has stopped retracting and I have purchased an original replacement part (ouch!). The question is, how do I replace it? I have tried undoing the top part but it just rotates around. Is the correct method or am i going about it the wrong way? Thanks.

You will atleast have to remove the inner guard. Once you have removed the inner guard you will be able to see whats involved getting it out. It may end up being easier to remove the whole guard as there is generally not a lot of room in there.

Are you just replacing the rope and mast or the whole unit including the motor?.
If it's just the rope and mast, unscrew the nut on top and remove the shroud that sits between the nut and the top of the guard.
Then just turn the radio on and pull upwards on the aerial mast at the same time, the old rope and mast should pull out. Sometimes it can be corroded and very difficult to get out.
Make sure you remove all the old rope, sometime it can break and leave a piece stuck in there.
To fit the new one just hand feed it in as far as it will go and then turn the radio off and gentle feed it back down as the aerial motor pulls it down.
If you have difficulty remove the old rope and mast you may need to remove the whole aerial from the vehicle.

Out of curiosity. When the radio is off is the mast suppose to go right down? Or stop with about three inches still sticking out?

When the radio is off, the aerial should go all the way down.
If the mast is corroded this can stop it from going fully down.
With the aerial fully erect, run some steel wool up and down the mast then spray it with WD40.
If this doesn't help or the mast is bent you will need to replace the rope and mast.
