Hi all,

I had issues with lpg, sorted that with new leads, spark plugs, dizzy etc....she won't start on fuel, but once up and running on gas I can flick it over to petrol. Now the problem is when I'm driving along the taco goes crazy every now and then like real crazy and I loose all power. It's weird as it does it more going over bumps in the road. Do I need a carby rebuild? Any suggestions as it's near impossible to run on fuel! Thanks guys

Hmmm - others with more knowledge on this no doubt, but seems odd that it's when you go over a bump - more like its a bad earth/connection in your ignition/electrical and/or fuel pump cabling that is getting knocked around intermittently when driving and hitting bumps etc, and subsequently playing up and causing the gauge to jump all over the place, and if bad enough, to cause a full stop ...

I'd be sussing this out just as a check prior to jumping into the carby rebuild IMHO.

Yeah I agree with bigrig. It sounds more like an electrical miss, not a carby problem. If it was the carby then the tacho would die as you lost power and rpms. The fact that it's jumping leans more towards a breaking down of the spark. Id thoroughly check all wires and earth connections going to and from the coil and dissy. Also pop the top off the dissy and check/clean all the contacts. But as it's intermittent, id say it's more likely to be a loose wire rather than a bad earth

Hmmm.... interesting! I've had issues with the electronic ignition before....as soon as a little water hits it...it dies! River crossings etc... it's odd that on gas it doesn't do it....as much... unsure why it would on fuel... I've never liked the wiring in that ignition anyway. Off to my auto elec then. I wouldn't mind upgrading to a petronix anyway. I have a crow cams ignition and coil atm.... thanks guys does that help a little more? All advice is very much appreciated. It's great to be in this community!

So went and saw the auto elec found a link at the battery terminal from the electronic ignition that was loose...a little crimp of the pliers and Hey presto! Seems to be fine.... time will tell. Hope this post helps others in the future! Thanks to the guys who helped earlier.... your champs!
