Well ive been here a few months now and things are rooling along quite well with my Q so i thought i wouold do a thread about me and the ride..

Its a 91 GQ sporting the famous TD42 NA motor with the 5speed manual on 15x7 sunnies (now painted black).
Life started as a demo car in adelaide. And once my olds cought wind they were expecting no.3 they thought they betta upgrade. The salesman had it sold to us kids before the test drive stared.. lol
So that was it, only 400Km's on the clock my parents bought it and we headed back to the farm.
It was fitted with some custom alloy sidesteps to suit the wide flares and some ralley 1000 spotties to pick them roos a bit further down the road..
Well it staid this way for some 18 years and put me and my 2 younger brothers threw our licences and weekend sporting trips, sometimes 300K round trips to adelaide and back on friday night for hockey..
Untill 2007 it was used as a daily driver on the farm and broke the 450,000k's mark and left the otter ute for dead.. The parents "upgraded" to the new prado.. :jawdrop:
So it sat dormit for 6 months then i decided to inherit it. After selling my EB falcon to my younger brother for the cost of a OME +2" lift kit installed it made its way done to the mount..

First thing, painted those ugly white sunnies black.. Nice..
Then unfortuantly i got hit front on.. No majour damage, but scored a brand new ARB winch bar out of it.. :tease:
Mid this year i started getting serious with it..
I have fitted single piece glass to the rears, top move i recon..
Fitted a 25mm body lift to it for future projects and a little more height.
Gained an extra 15 Liters by my simple gank breather lift mod.
Added my own rear work light, bolt on, check out my sig
removed the front sway bar to allow a little more flex in the front.
Added a seperate fuse box in the front with a single positive buzz bar to tidy up under the bonnet..

And the TO DO LIST.. Which will keep growing
rear draw setup, i have some great ideas.. and cargo barrier DONE
dual battery setup DONE
on board compressor
fridge.. DONE
Long Long range fuel tank.. Im hoping to get 130-150L main..
Side step / sliders
custom rear bar, and then front.
32" tires.. minimum
a winch for the front bar
custom 4" stainless snorkle
Fix the few smae rust spots in gutters and rear doors
replace rear door glass rubbers
get out and enjoy it

So im hoping that the old girl will give me and my new family alot of great memories as it gave me and has alot of good k's left in it..

Nice straight looking unit you have there. Love the "To Do List". This will make it a touring weapon. Good luck and look forward to seeing it advance

So why the one piece windows? With the drawer system in the back of mine I like yo be able to mount stuff on the cargo barrier and reach it from one of the side windows. Not being critical, just interested to know....

Well price compared to replacement sliding windows..
Extra security was another. And IMO I like the look better. Once all tinted the same it should look tuff..
But yes, limited access was a thought which crossed my mind.. But I have some ideas which wont require the cage..

Well I've been a busy boy..
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2013/01/118.jpg
Were to start.. I had a leak in the trailer vacuum brake setup, so my plan was to tackle that.. but then the wife bought me a projecta dual battery setup for chrissy and the vacuum canister was right in the way.. and fitting it else were as pointless due to size.. so I fixed it..
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2013/01/119.jpg
So now with that out the way and the beaut access to my leaking vacuum pump (oil leak from front seal) I pulled it off to replace the seal. Should be here Wednesday.
So as it stood Sunday, vac canister mounted lower to fit under second battery tray, vac pump off waiting seal, and I have also moved the clutch vacuum canister to under the fuel filter to allow my 4" s/s snorkel to come threw there.
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2013/01/120.jpg
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2013/01/121.jpg
Next I started on the second battery tray..
I've made it from 40x40x3 angle steel. Bolted it to the wheel arch using 2 rubber blocks 6mm thick and braced back to the radiator overflow bottle mounts.
Strong as an ox.
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2013/01/122.jpg
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2013/01/123.jpg

Also while I had some old conveyor belt I cut new engine bay covers. When I did my 1" body lift they didn't quite stretch enough.. they come up tops imo
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2013/01/124.jpg
http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2013/01/125.jpg
I reused the 2 plugs either side which goes into the chassis so no mods there, and used alloy wide head rivets for the rest.

So the to do list now..
Get seal for vac pump, refit
Get battery hold down clamp
Wire in second battery.

And all before we leave for beachport this weekend... Lol

Well i thought i betta up date...
So i have ticked a few boxes on the to do list..
Dual batteries done.. :icon_victory:
Fridge Done, yet to fit slides but coming.. :icon_victory:
Draw system and cargo area.. DONE (http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/showthread.php?19876-My-Draw-Build) (<<Link) :icon_victory:
And now the LED lights for that area.. DONE..

I saw the ideal spot to run the LED strip.. There is a 8mm gab between the outer / lower door jam and the door itself.. So why not..
Drilled a hole in the panel to allow wire to run threw, and ran the wire down the internals of the pillar to the jack location and then into a switch which i have built into the draws system..
If you remove the outside vent panel this give access to the inside of the pillar and aids in running the wire down.. Very happy..

Thanks mate. A bit to go yet..
Well bud first time was a rush job..
Lasted about 12 months..

So second time around ill be removing the tyres, pulling the valves.
Getting sand blasted and primed, then a 2 Pac top coat.
I'm also going to run balance beads, read good things about them. So no weights to chip the paint. I guess you could run the stick on weights, but the have been known to come off in the mud..

Looks good mate. Wish I could have a 2nd battery under the hood im biy sick of it being in the back but the 2.8 have no room left.

Also im jealous of people like you I would love to build my own car but if you cant do the work yourself it just costs way to much.

Hey im looking at knocking up some draws gor mine I have the frame but not sure about the rollers where / what brand did you use?

BigRAWesty
6th December 2013, 10:39 PM
Hay mate, no rollers. Used a product called UHMW. It's like nylon but tuff as nails and hard wearing. But back 2 pieces together and they slide like butter.
Saves space, weight and $$$, we used 10x3mm strips

So round 2. Nothing like short notice lol..
Started at 2am this morning and knocked off at 11am.. So decided to tear down the patrol lol..
So I'm installing keyless entry system, hopefully the new lra tank setup, and also fix up electrical issues.
I also hope to fit a 1" body lift and a spring tower brace.. And hopefully some bloody side steps lol..
One issue I think I found was the windows.
The amp unit is fubar'd.. More to come

BigRAWesty
22nd September 2014, 10:55 AM
So the central locking works!!!! Yay.
A successful electrical install and nothing is worse off than when I started... :-D
so due to finding the possible dud amp unit and there price it'll be back on the road now tomorrow, save some more cash and go again...

lhurley
22nd September 2014, 11:27 AM
How do you find the central locking? Is it just keyless entry or an alarm too?

If it's a good kit, do you have a link or name? I'm looking at doing the same

BigRAWesty
22nd September 2014, 02:05 PM
The master actuators relay a signal back to the unit so if you use a key it opens all doors as per stock, or can use the keyless system.

This system does have an option to wire into alarm system. Unsure what's involved in that, but will be looking into it soon also.

The kit was from anvil electronics or jaycar.

49512

So this is the buttons, actuators and second master.
I'd recommend getting it like this if possible as both kits come with a loom, I just cut one up to suit the my needs and soldered in..
