View Full Version : Possible Permanent EGR CEL Fix for CRD's [Code P0401]

Have been doing a bit of reading up on the CEL caused by blocking the EGR pipe as I'm going to be doing this mod soon.
And the fact that it causes the CEL to come on 'randomly'.

I did a similar mod on my bike, I blocked the 'PAIR' valve. It's used to inject air into the exhaust chamber to ignite any unburnt fuel.
When you block this valve off you get a CEL on your HUD, to fix it i placed a 10k ohm resister between the pins of the plug that activates the solenoid of the valve.

Now back to the patrol, i haven't taken off the engine cover or anything yet to suss out the engine and as I'm new to patrols I'm not to familiar with their engine set up yet. And I'm also finding it hard to find any info on CRD engines, the best I've found is the ZD30DDTi engines which obviously differ.

But this is what I'm looking at tinkering with, that connector circled in the second picture.

Anyone done anything similar to this yet, or have any info that may help?

* EDIT *

Upon further reading I've found that there are 2 solenoids (A & B). So if it's possible to disconnect these plugas nd fool the ECM into thinking they are still connected & working it may be possible to 'block' the EGR without actually blocking it at all.

Here's the wiring schematic of the ECM and EGR i think putting some 10-20 ohm resistors between these terminals should fix the problem.

Possible useful bits of info:

Resistance of the EGR Valve(s) should also be between 13-17 ohms.

When you've blocked the EGR the CEL WILL come on under these conditions:
Coolant temperature above 180 degrees
RPM between 1800-2200
Constant load for 30 seconds.

The CEL WON'T come on under these conditions:
Engine stopped
Engine starting
Low engine coolant temperature
Excessively high engine coolant temperature
High engine speed
Wide open throttle
Low battery voltage

If anyone has a CRD workshop manual they could link me to, would be a big help.

Not long 2 go, just go welcome in some more new members and the manual is all yours.

Don't forget to stick around after you get the manual, lot more info on here than any manual will give you

Cheers
