has anyone made a mod so the rear interior light comes on when you open the back barn doors? and how did they go about it? its just pointless for me to have the light come on when i open the side doors and would rather have it work when i open the back doors. any ideas would be appreciated.

You could run a wire to it and mount a switch just inside the back door for you to remotely switch it or install a door switch. Power it off the back of your 12v plug in the back and fused. If you don't have a 12v socket at the back then this is the perfect time to install one ;)

Alternatively, there will be a hot wire going to that light anyway, just cut into it and extend that wire to a switch in the side panel and back to the light. Go off the back of the switch on the light. The light switch would remain in the permanently ON position and you would now switch from the panel.

I have LED strip lighting on both back doors and switched independently to each side panel. Works Great!

Thought of this myself. Just haven't got around to doing it yet. Should be just a matter of cutting the wire from the light that goes to the doors, assuming it would go forward to the center light and running a new wire to the switches in the cargo door.

If I remember I'll have a quick look over the weekend and let you know.

The square one I have in cargo area is actually a revesre light off a truck, but I like things nice and bright,.
All those above lights are about 150 diameter, best I've seen on and 4X4, I have LED strips too

would the wires to the rear light run to the back of the car then down 1 of the pillars?

The easiest way to do this is run a wire from one of the rear door switches to the barn door and then mount a switch. The other side of the switch will need to be earthed.

You can pick up a switch from a car alarm installer that will turn on the interior lights on as soon as the barn door is opened or you can just mount a toggle switch.

Just finished checking it all out / actually modding it to how I want it.

seems all the LH door switches are wired together, then join all the RH door switches that are wired together. then go up to meet the light in the center, then down to the cargo light.

I just cut the wires near a plug, just forward of the false tail lights and at the cargo light. All red wires with black trace. then just ran two new wires between the barn door switches and the cargo light. took about an hour, but I was mucking around with other things while I was going.

edit: after reading back through your original post, and realising you have a GQ, yours might be slightly different. Do the barn doors actually turn the light on at all?
Originally in the GU, if either of the two lights were set to doors, they would turn on when any door was opened. Now after my wiring change, the barn doors will only turn on the cargo light. and the passenger/driver doors with only turn on the center light.
