The old girl still runs well but recently we noticed oil in the top of the coolant. Took her to the mechanic who checked the oil-cooler and replaced the gasket. $700 later we took her home and all was well for a few months, but now we're finding oil on top of the coolant again!
There is no overheating and the oil is not emulsified; any clever person seen this before? Would value some opinions.
Thanks. :)

Hi Mate and welcome, there is a chance that the oil cooler may have a pin hole in it somewhere.
The only other thing I can think of would be a faulty head gasket.
Take the dipstick out and hold it over a candle and see if the oil spatters, that may indicate water in the oil.
Keep an eye on temps.
Cheers, the ferret.

Thanks Ferret, will try that. Temps have been fine, but she's losing a bit of oil for the first time ever. She's done 340,000Ks, so doesn't owe us much, but it would be nice to keep her a bit longer - they don't make them like that any more. The oil in the coolant won't help hoses, either, I guess :(
