Hi guys, I've now done my 2" body lift and a +2" Pedders suspension lift on my GQ shortie
I've binned front and rear Anti Roll Bar, you guys quaintly call 'em "sway bars"
I've not put any castor correction on after reading the info on here.
Now what's the next best thing I can do on the suspension that'll give me more flex for my pounds, oops, I meant "bucks" ;)
Rear quarters are being cut now and I'm running 35s , cheers :gday:

Longer shocks, bump stop extensions, super flex arm.

X2 ... bit late now I guess, but if over there are anything like here, then not sure the springs will be that fantastic anyway - flexi coils in a 2" would be the go (sorry for the 20/20 hindsight after you've forked out for it - mine had 2" Pedders in when I bought it, only fitted about 6 months prior apparently, and they were awful ... suffice to say they
Asked about 6 weeks on the rig after I got it!!).

And you need to be a little careful lifting a shortie any more than you have mate as you will run into issues with pinion angles and drive shaft impact.
What Newby described is the go. Think about putting the rear sway bar back on for drivability and it will encourage the front to flex a little more ;)

Good call mate - exactly what I'm in the process of doing - back flexes supremely well, but front not working enough, so getting a custom chromemolly sway bar setup done at some stage in the near future ... bar is from the US, just need to make sure we can "make it fit"!! lol

Ha , broody hindsight :/ Typically poor option list over here so Pedders are in for a bit longer at least ! The shocks are +2 also by the way;) I can re fit the rear sway bar I guess, but what's the deal with this American one of which you speak?
The extended bump stops? Can you explain how that will help please, cause I'm pretty sure they've left the building way before I got the truck lol

Having the rear sway attached causes a bit of load on the rear assembly (as the bar tries to fight the flex as it were) and subsequently ends up turning the chassis/body for want of a better description - making the front flex harder and keeping the truck more stable and level through wombat holes etc (do you call them wombat holes over there?? lol - badger holes maybe!!). Not sure I've described that well, but hopefully you get the gist ...
As usual with the seppo's, everything aftermarket that you could possibly think of is available ... for jeeps!!! Lol. But they have a rear sway bar that is single side joined - essentially, mounted to the chassis, but only one side of the axle assembly - apparently sort of "pre-loads" the one rear side it's attached to on both compression and expansion flex movement, basically doing what I've said above - causing the front to flex more ... it's mounted above the axle line so it doesn't have tendency to get caught on anything.
my struggle is the size specifications and trying to find one close enough to fab up some mounts ... Benny-e-boy and myself are going to give it a whirl, and if it works, post up process and details for all to see and use ...

And to further bigrig. When you fit longer shocks the length of the chamber is lengthened to allow more travel.
When you fully compress the shock and apply further compression it destroys the internals. So to limit the shocks compression we for extended bump stops. Lots of options from extending the stock ones right threw to fitting aftermarket ones. Ie land cruder fronts to the patrols rear..
By instating longer shocks (+4" travel) you allow a lot more flex between the 2 axils, without loosing on road handling or get chased by the fun police as much due to a stand out lift..

Cheers guys I see the fog clearing a bit now lol. I'll get some bump stops for sure then as I can't afford bent shocks , even if they are pedders :)
I'll hang fire on the funky rear sway till you've done the donkey work BigRig .........
Just had a look at the flex arms things and certainly out of my price bracket :/
Sooooooooo, if I can get some dollar together to get some +4" travel shocks , I'll then need some drop out cones I guess? The rear bump stops will stop the axle/wheel going too high into the arch and protect the compressed shock. :-)
What sort of flex, ht above lifted wheel is to be expected from a typical +2" lift?
I got this when I measured mine , 31" under front before the back came off the ground.

Well if your keeping the +2 shocks there is no need for bumpstops. But there on the limits. Any longer you will need to go that way.
But it looks like your shorty is flexing quite nicely there anyway.
If and when you go to longer shocks you may need drop out cones and retainers, depending on how much your spring compresses from no load. They might stretch back out enough to retain in the seats.. If not yea some simple drop boxes and spring retaining plates.
