have you tried adjusting the dawes

Like roofy said - adjust the Dawes valve. Also, mine had a vacuum leak and that will give you that symtom. Check or even renew your hoses. They are not that expensive. Otherwise you have hooked something up incorrectly.

I have tried adjusting the Dawes vale, I don't have a needle vale tho do I need one ?

A needle valve is not critical . What was your boost reading prior to dawes valve install ?

Think you may have to stretch the spring a little if you have ran out of adjustment. Use small Stainless washers if available
better than stretching spring IMO, needs more pressure which in turn will increase your boost, EGTs will come down too

also since i blocked the egr off im using more fuel??

Get some MAF cleaner from Supercheap and give it a clean.

X 2 with Mudski give the Maf a decent spray, make sure it dry before you replace it,

Wheres the up date???

BOWZER

I have tried cleaning it and hasn't changed, may be I should try again

I was after some MAF cleaner in SuperCheap yesterday but couldn't find it (no staff even to ask... surprise surprise) .

Is it actually called "MAF cleaner" or is it a generic "contact cleaner" like CRC?

Id hate to use the wrong stuff and and ruin the sensor!

BOWZER
10th November 2012, 12:23 PM
its called mass air flow sensor cleaner by CRC i got mine from autobarn

threedogs

hey threedogs thanks for your help, i have just found out that my maf sensor if playing around

How did you come to find its was the MAF sensor?

BOWZER
11th November 2012, 09:50 AM
I went to aus4wd and they were looking over the rig, and the could only get 11psi so they tried a different maf sensor and the rig was now making 18psi

BOWZER
17th November 2012, 06:58 PM
I got the new maf sensor and put it in and I'm still only getting 11psi of boost, I took out the boos sensor and cleaned it? Should I bypass the ecu from controlling the boost and have it set up as manual boost control??

mudski
19th November 2012, 09:29 AM
Thats what the dawes is supposed to do. Take away the ECU control of the boost. So it mechanically controlled. Dumb question maybe but that vac line in the t-piece going away from the VNT. Which port on the vacuum solenoid is it hooked up too?
Also it looks like your dawes is screwed almost right in. Either get some washers like TD said,or, stretch the spring. Some engines just react slightly different to others.
Plus I would be making sure all the IC hoses are clamped up tight and no cracks or holes in the hoses too.

BOWZER
19th November 2012, 09:34 AM
It's hooked up to the middle of the vac solinoid

mudski
19th November 2012, 09:37 AM
Yeah sound to me you may have a leak somewhere then. As per your other thread. Just double check all your hose clamps and hoses. You don't want to spend $$$ on a new IC only to find out it was a hose or clamp.

BOWZER
19th November 2012, 09:41 AM
I agree I don't want to spend money on parts that are not required, is there a good way to leak test the system?

Bob

Disconnect your Battery for a couple of hours to allow your Computer to reset.

BOWZER
19th November 2012, 09:46 AM
Just in case there is a ecu error?

Bob

Just in case there is a ecu error?

Your ECU is self learning and will adjust for false readings from your MAF and by taking Power from the ECU it resets to Factory settings.

My speco boost gauge ended up failing, so I took it back and swaped it for a saas boost gauge now I am reading 15psi with no Dawes controller, I still have suspicion that the I/c is leaking as I wipe my finger under the end tank and get oil on my finger? Has any one built there own boost leak tester?

threedogs

Might be worth taking the IC off and cleaning the inside, just make sure its dry before installing again. The top RHS hose usually pops off now and again. remove that as well. Change to the blue silicon jobs. Might need a catch can unless I've missed something, how many K's it done???

threedogs

The vacuum solenoid should be looped off, from memory

take the i/c off
plug the ends with rubber plugs and putting air hose connecter in one turn on compresser place in trough or bucket with water
if blows bubbles its leaking

Roofy I take it your only using a small amount of pressure??? Should be some liquid product you can swish around inside ic to seal it Oh Well.

there probably is mate but he,s only chacing a leak this will tell him

Thanks guys ill take it off and try that, and what do you mean about the vac line looped?

threedogs
21st November 2012, 12:53 PM
All the lines are either looped off or plugged with a screw, check Chaz Yellowfoot Diagram in dawes set up he's a Guru on these matters in search engine.
By blocking these you take thinking away from ecu as you have just fitted dawes to do the thinking for you, read Chazs thread

If he's not using a needle valve he wont need to loop the other two vac ports. Only use the middle port for when using just the dawes. I think .hehe

Just an update the I/c is leaking a fair bit on the outlet side

threedogs
22nd November 2012, 06:34 AM
You'll need a fully welded one or a larger after market one depending on your needs. price wise $650 to $1300 I think.
Some are on change over basis

How soon we forget I thought all blocked except the return air hose, I'll have to re visit the archives I think

BOWZER

Yeh I have been looking at I/c I can get a pwr one for 450 but have to pay 780 up front and get 330 back for mine

Now you know its not that ,it may be leak from boost line, but 15psi fine mines the same and flies, so not touching it, keep your psi safe . what are your temps???

BOWZER

15psi is fine, just that with a pillar pod or similar yoy can see whats going on under the bonnet at different times, Highly recommend
