Forgot about this thread...lol

After she caught her first fish her niece had a meltdown because she didn't catch one. We had to sit there for 4 hours trying to get her a fish but no joy...

Even funnier Mia cracked it because we threw it back in and she said she wanted to eat it...lol

Nah it's the creek that runs along the camp sites at murrindindi. Not sure the name but it runs down into the yea river.

That's at the water gauge camp site. Best spot, toilets right near camp and a bridge with a good hole underneath to fish.

Finally booked my accommodation for the Cod Classic for the first weekend in December.
After I had booked a 3bedroom house in June as I had several people wanting to come up with me, have now change there minds, and I don't want to pay for the house on my own (me and my brother) lucky the unit I always get every year, still had my name on it from last year, even though they knew I had booked the 3 bed house, go figure.

I spoke thoroughly to NSW Fisheries today in regards to the Cod regulation being spoken about.
I have now found out, after months of discussion regarding the Murray Cod NSW fisheries and now talking about a 60-80cm size limit and a one fish catch limit.

However, I also heard that DPI Vic are still talking about a 50-70cm size limit, which is pretty silly both departments not co operating together to get a national limit on Australia's largest fresh water fish.

If the two states do have two different size limits there will certainly many problems arising.

One that comes to mind is the Bundalong boat ramp is on the entrance of the Ovens river (Victorian waters) and only a short trip to the Murray river proper (NSW waters)
So now your fishing on the Murray in NSW waters, and you have caught a 79cm cod which is a legal size for Nsw fisheries, you now come back to the Bundalong boat ramp on the Ovens (Vic waters) with Vic fisheries at the ramp checking catches.
Your 79cm Murray cod is now an illegally kept fish cos you are now on Victorian waters on the Ovens.

Family4x4
24th August 2014, 07:19 PM
Ridiculous.

Perhaps they should then make the size limit bound by which state license you hold?

MEGOMONSTER

Ridiculous. Perhaps they should then make the size limit bound by which state license you hold?

And the fisheries realise this and would be very hard to police.

They (NSW Fisheries) also told me, that they also have in discussions to allow Bow fishing on the Murray and perhaps full protection on Murray Crays.

Supposedly extremely low in numbers and locations.

I am not sure what healthy numbers would look like. With roughly a week left in the cray season we pulled up approx 30-40 crays in a 500m stretch of river. We kept 7 between 4 people, we could have taken another and we had opportunity to but didn't.

I know I was the same when craying but they did say it was only being discussed. They must be talking about other tributaries other than the Murray, cos he was saying that the Crays were unable to live in the black water after the bush fires and cannot survive on land alone.

I was fishing from the Bank and did move around however could not get near the Holes that I know in that area due to the River being so low and Mud Banks 6 Metres or so from the edge with big drop offs and would have been hard to land anything..

I assume your shit stirring about the 100 braid.
As it wouldn't cast very well unless on a huge spool. 100lb braid on a small reel/spool would actually decrease your casting distance.

As for your $12 dyneema, it's cheap for reason.
I'm just saying.

Always choose a braid that is near round and not flat, as this cause issues and strain on the line, reel and spool.

Two mates went out this weekend, near P2 marker, one boat got 1, one boat got 5, for all days work. Had to keep sounding for more than a hour before dropping anchor.

I'll try to find my little black book of fishing marks, but these are just marks, you still need to sound around to find them. They have a very distinctive arch on the sounder.

If it is a Tilapia as gaddy says, google it. It appears that it a bit of a pest. In fact it get heaps of mentions, looks like its not popular with the authorities. It may be illegal to even think of these things lol.

I have found a few pictures of Drummer which have the same body shape, but different markings, so it may even be a hybrid, which occurs quite often according to one book.

Hi Mego, will put a couple of pics of my recent builds, tho prob not for everyone as one was for lady who wanted pink and a bit of bling, we have a Face book page @ https://www.facebook.com/evolvefishing.com.au and encourage anyone who is interested to like the page as there will be more and more builds coming in the future with a couple of really nice ones coming up.

I am relative new to building custom fishing rods, was a fishing guide for more than 7 years up north based out of Cairns working throughout FNQ and Cape York and have spent the last year learning as much about the craft as I can, reading everything I come across and talking to people in the industry, for me its something to keep me occupied since making the move down south to be with family, if you or anyone is after a custom rod by all means get in touch and we can have a chat about it.

Cheers

Scott.

A couple of builds,

One for the Ladies. Built on a MHX 6-12lb blank with Microwave guides.

520035200452005

One for the Kids built on a 6-10lb CRB Blank, with a yellow and black theme for there favourite footy team, we can also put names, nick names, favourite sayings, what ever you want on your new rod.

5200752006

And another.

52008

And a little 2-6lb built on a Matrix blank, this will have Fuji K SiC micro guides and is still a work in progress, will be built for performance and comfort rather than looks and bling and will be my new one for up in the mountains chasing trout in the small streams and rivers.

52009

Got a couple of really good ones coming up including a custom cork grip, still restoring an old old surf rod, hoping to bring it back to original condition if I can source the guides and reel seat, work in progress..

Had a great Australia Day having a picnic with friends at Lake Daylesford, with a little fishing involved.

54434

Bait fishing with four rods, both me and Zoran couldn't get a bite all morning.
When bringing one of Zoran's rods in using Powerbait for trout, he had hooked up a yabbie.
So I peeled the tail and put it back out to get the only bite all day.
However I was flicking a Salta Cocktail most of the afternoon to only get one small reddie.

54435

Whilst walking around the banks flicking the Salta around, I noticed a dark shadow in the water and soon realised it was a big carp. We tried to get it to eat our bait but it wasn't interested in food what so ever.
It kept coming closer and closer to the edge where eventually it was close enough to lay on my stomach reach down and tried to grab the fish, I got my hand half way in its gills and tried to lift it out, it was half way out the water and was flapping around and got me drenched, I lost my grip and dropped it but quickly reached down and got a much better grip to pull it out.
Fishing Bear Grylls style.
54452

Once I lifted it out of the water, all the picnickers behind us, around us and opposite us, all clapped and cheered. It was so funny, but spewing no one took any footage.

Easy 5-6 kgs not lbs.
The pictures really don't show how tall and broad this fish really is.
I reckon 9-10 inches tall and 6 inches wide.
I couldn't get my hand around the tail wrist and it makes my forearms look skinny.

Three generations went fishing for King George Whiting off Werribee on Friday morning. Grandfather, father, son and a mate. They were in close, about 2.5 mtrs of water just before the marina near the old jet ski ramp.

Thats because I wasn't there.

When I go the beach is flatter 'n a shit carters hat, has less fish than the Gobi Desert and the 4,000 people taking up every available camp site all bagged out yesterday on unprecedented schools of monster fish the like of which will never be seen again.. or until the day after I leave.

Went mud crabbing near Broome, no nets, not bait, just a piece of fencing wire with a lop on the end. Crawling around the stinking mud flats but certainly produced results. Had five in no time at all, then an enjoyable lunch with the family.
I could get used to this lifestyle.

Actually I did try the chilli beer and enjoyed it, so far the favourite is the Mango beer. Least favourite is the ginger beer.
They do a good meal as well, so far there's not much I haven't enjoyed in Broome.
